On our most recent adventure we found many Blue Starfish (one of my favorites). So the kiddos and I learned more about them. The Blue Starfish also know as the Linckia laevigata get their color from a pigment called linckiacyanin and some yellow carotenoids. They are commonly found in shallow water, but have also been found as deep as 50 meters. They are thought to be omnivores since they are nocturnal and are primarily opportunistic scavengers. The thing little man liked the most was their defense system. Turns out that they keep themselves safe by use of a chemical defense called Saponins to keep predators away. Here is a picture of one that I could almost touch :) #teamchangeonfire🔥 #okinawaadventures #bluestarfish.#howcoolarethey😎 #kiddoslovethem #bluestarfishfacts😀
