Music and musicians from Africa Part 1: Angélique Kidjo
I was a bit taken aback when http://musicainextenso.com/ asked me to do a third series about music and musicians from Africa. Who knew that it would be so popular?
This time I’ve tried to include different regions, golden oldies and new stars; and I’m kicking off with a woman who deserves to be first: Angélique Kidjo from Benin. TIME magazine called her "Africa's premier diva", the BBC included Kidjo in its list of the Africa’s 50 most iconic figures, and the list goes on.
Here she is singing the Swahili love song Malaika with the Orchestre Philharmonique Du Luxembourg.
