NOTES: After Gabe makes dinner, the two ‘cuddle up’ with one another.
WARNINGS: ..just sex. That’s about it.
SPENCER
With a full stomach and a smile on her face, Spencer made her way to Gabe’s bedroom and made sure that he was following behind. Even though the anniversary of her father’s death was coming up pretty soon, she felt happy. If anything, Gabe knew how to keep her happy. “That was amazing,” Spencer told him, flopping down on his bed. She held out her hand to pull Gabe onto bed with her, but it ended up with him on top of her. She giggled, pressing kisses along his jawline and neck. “You’re an amazing cook. I can’t wait for you to cook for me for the rest of our lives,” Spencer mumbled. Maybe it was silly that she knew that they were going to be together forever, but she felt it in her bones. The two of them were meant to be together. The reason why she wanted to bring him to bed was because she wanted to tell him that she was ready to lose her virginity to him. Maybe it was fast -- a little too fast, perhaps -- but she wanted him and she wanted to feel what it was like to do that but with Gabe. After a few minutes of silence and Gabe still on top of her, Spencer hummed out nervously. “I..” She trailed off, not really knowing how to say it. “I’m ready.” It was simple, but she was pretty sure it said everything she wanted to. “I’m ready, Gabe.”

@thetuckrule: I don’t want to fuck my clone because that would be gay sex and I’m not gay.
@riveragabe: I’m not gay, but I would actually totally fuck my clone.
@elliotjabrams: I’m gay, but I still don’t want to fuck my clone, that’s gross and weird.
@dmateolopez: I don’t want to fuck my clone because my self-loathing is THAT strong.
@levipuckerman: I’d totally fuck my clone because I want to know if I’m good in bed.
@audporter: I’d fuck my clone because who would know better how to fuck ME than ME?
@spencerfleming: I’d totally do all sort of weird things to my clone I’d be embarrassed to ask someone else to do.
@thebestweston: To be honest, fucking my clone has always been my fantasy.
@beauspearce: It’s basically the same as masturbating, right? So no big deal.
@queeniefabray: It’s not the same as masturbating; it’d be like having sex with your twin. Wrong and bad!
@eliasfabs: I would not have sex with my clone because what if my clone is evil.
@roryshudson: Not only would I have sex with my clone, I’d probably make a bunch of clones and just get it on with all of them at once because that’s how pro clone-fucking I am.
NOTES: Gabriel comes over to talk to Spencer about what he found out about his father. Instead of talking, though, the anger comes out in a way that he didn’t want to. Spencer doesn’t take it well, and things end in a very unfortunate way.
WARNINGS: None!
Sergio González. Assistant coach, Columbus Crew. Married. Three children. Unwillingly, it was something that kept repeating in Gabriel’s mind as he regretted the simple google search he’d done after school. For years, he’d vehemently denied his curiosity; he didn’t need to know the person who hadn’t even cared they’d gotten someone pregnant, as there was no room in his life for a person like that. But after the anniversary of Spencer’s father, he couldn’t deny that he was a bit curious. He needed to know. He needed to know only to forget. Finding out that he had three children and that the oldest was but a year younger than him, he saw red. Rage was coursing through his veins to the point where it was blinding him, and there was only one person who could calm him down from that. Without sending a text letting her know that he was coming over, Gabriel made the familiar drive to Spencer’s house; his hands gripped the steering wheel tight as he saw a car speed away from her driveway and he wondered if it’d been Elliot. Gabriel let himself inside and made his way to the kitchen when he heard shuffling coming from that direction. He didn’t even greet her. He didn’t have the patience for anything and a part of him knew it was all Sergio’s fault. “Who was that?” he asked, barely making an attempt to hide his jealousy.
Most of the time, Spencer had spent her days after school busy doing extra curricular activities - sports, Glee Club, work and more. When she wasn’t doing these things, she mostly spent her time with Gabe. Today was different, though. She asked Elliot to come over to go over some lyrics that she had been writing for awhile now. They were about Gabe, and she had wanted the whole thing to be a surprise. As soon as Elliot had left, though, Spencer found herself rummaging in the kitchen as she found herself something to snack on. ‘Who was that?’ Spencer jumped, letting out a small squeal and turning around quickly to see that it was Gabe. She chuckled, but then realized he hadn’t even said hi. She quirked her eyebrow, turning around to grab some chips before facing him again. “First off, hi to you too goof.” Spencer shoved his shoulder playfully, sticking out her tongue. “That was Elliot. Why?”
Red and green. Gabriel couldn’t help it and he hated himself for it, but that was all he felt. Anger and jealousy. Red and green. He scoffed humorlessly as she admitted that it was, in fact, Elliot who’d been over not even minutes ago. Even though he’d been jealous of their interactions, he would’ve shrugged it off as if it was nothing any other day, but he was seething with anger, his blood boiling. Not even a cute gesture from her was enough to make him smile. “Of course it was her” his voice void of its usual warmth, a subtle mocking tone the evidence that he was unlike himself at the moment. “She’s always around. Her and her... what was it? Right. Her hot bod.” He paused, trying to remember the texts he’d seen. “Hella sexy, right?”
Almost immediately, Spencer noticed that something was off with Gabe. Even after a few seconds of saying ‘hi’, he’d have his strong arms wrapped around her and would be peppering kisses along her face. She put down the bag of chips and watched him seethe, taking a step back as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Are you serious right now?” Spencer’s voice was quiet, and she had to wonder why Gabe was acting this way. Ever since the two of them had met each other, Spencer had been incredibly affectionate with everyone - especially her closer friends. She huffed, rolling her eyes as she tried to figure out of Gabe was being serious. This wasn’t like him - and even more so, he was quoting word for word text messages that she had sent to Elliot. “Wait, what? Did you read my texts or something?”
For a moment, Gabriel wondered if this was a feeling he shared with Sergio - along with their uncanny looks - jealousy. Mariana was never like this, she never got angry, she never saw green. But for as long as Gabriel could remember, this was something that he felt as strongly as he felt happiness. Jealousy wasn’t a good look, he knew it, but he couldn’t help but feel it. “You asked me to look for something on your phone at the same time she texted you. I accidentally pressed on the notification and saw your texts. I wasn’t looking for anything.” A pause. “But I found it.” There was a part of him that knew he was being ridiculous and that Spencer would have every right to be angry, but the other part - the angry part - won out. “You were saying the same things to her that you were saying to me. At the same damn time, Spence. I wasn’t gonna say anything, but... fuck, if that doesn’t make someone feel like shit.”
“What?” It was all Spencer could muster as she listened to Gabe’s words. Her confusion turned into a mild anger, and she scoffed at the mere ridiculousness of it all. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Spencer muttered, looking down at the floor as she tried to decide what she was even going to say to him. When she had told him a constant ‘no’ whenever he said that the two of them they should get together, it was because of small things like this. Never have the two of them gotten in a fight before, but with the anger bubbling in her chest she knew that it was inevitable. “So, what you’re basically saying is... Because I’m into girls too, I can’t say what literally every other girl says to their best friend? God forbid I tell my best friend that she’s good looking.”
“You say that like I’m not into guys too, Spencer, but you don’t see me telling my guy friends that they have ‘hot bods’ and that they’re ‘hella sexy’.” Gabriel was positively seething, feeling the anger bubbling deep in his chest, threatening to explode. The fact of the matter was that he knew he was being ridiculous, but he couldn’t help it; he couldn’t help but ruin what he’d slowly built for so long, only to let it come crashing down in a fit of jealousy. “God, I just...” Gabriel trailed off, letting out a frustrated groan at the fact that he was feeling so much, yet had no idea how to focus it on one thing. “She’s always around. I get that she’s your best friend and all but, fuck, even the goddamned costumes for the fucking party... you had to fucking match?” Foot, meet mouth. It was almost like word vomit and he couldn’t stop himself from talking, saying the wrong thing over and over again. Gabriel had come over to tell her about his father, and had just now positively angered her due to his own jealousy. He could blame Sergio for this, but he knew that even though it was partly his fault, Gabriel had done this. Gabriel had said this, and he couldn’t take it back. “Fuck, Spencer. Fuck.” Gabriel whispered an apology, but he was sure she hadn’t heard it. Perhaps she didn’t care.
In the past few minutes, there had been a whirlwind of emotions. Spencer was fine until Gabe showed up spewing his random jealousy, and it made her wonder if this is what he was like as a boyfriend. As a best friend, the two of them were carefree and they'd never once raised their voices at each other. Not even as a joke. Instead of saying much, she watched him as he continued rambling on - in true Gabriel Rivera style - about everything that she had done wrong. Spencer swallowed a lump in her throat and shoved her hands in her pockets as she looked down at the ground and wondered what she could even say back to him. His voice was raised, he was cussing at her and then he said too much. "This is how our relationship is going to be?" Spencer finally spoke, voice quiet. She didn't really seem to care that he seemed apologetic because the damage had already been done. "I'm supposed to constantly apologize for being an affection person." She paused. "That I've always been, by the way. This isn't something new and..." Spencer trailed off. "If this is the kind of boyfriend you'll be.. Cussing at me and getting jealous over Elliot, then... I don't know. I don't know, Gabe."
“The thing is... you say that like it’s crazy that I’m jealous over how you guys are, but you guys are best friends. We’re best friends. This could’ve easily been a role reversal and you could’ve ended up with her, and not me.” By this point, Gabriel was just saying things that he’d thought about briefly but didn’t exactly believe. It was almost as if he was talking just to talk, digging a deeper hole that he probably couldn’t climb out of. Gabriel hated that Spencer was wondering if this was the type of relationship they would have and if this was the type of boyfriend that he would be, and though he croaked out an ‘of course not, Spence’, he knew it wasn’t enough. He’d taken out his anger on her. On Spencer, of all people. Gabriel took in a ragged breath, running a hand through his hair and hating himself for letting the moment get the best of him. Gabriel opened his mouth to speak, but shook his head at the last moment as he stopped himself. He’d said enough. In fact, he’d said too much. “That’s not... fucking hell, Spence. I’m sorry.”April 18, 2018
Spencer had tried her hardest not to raise her voice at Gabe, no matter how ridiculous he was being. She didn't want the argument to escalate, but as soon as he mentioned that it could've been a role reversal she started laughing humorlessly - louder and louder until she stopped and just stared at him. "Are you kidding me?" She felt tears welling up in her eyes due just how angry she was with him, and she found herself at a loss for words. "A role reversal? That's how much you trust me, huh? That's how much you think you mean to me. You just think that I'd date all of my best friends." Another scoff, and she turned away from him and tried her best not to cry. "I can't believe you're doing this. This is exactly why I didn't want to start dating you. It's ruining everything. You..." She shook her head, refusing to look at him. "You would've never acted this way before."
Frustrated by the realization that Spencer’s tone had shifted and she now sounded upset rather than entirely angry, Gabriel groaned, knowing it was because of him. “I - I didn’t - I didn’t mean - I, fuck, I didn’t mean it like that...” he stuttered, shaking his head and wondering if he should just leave without saying another word so he wouldn’t fuck up even further. But then she said what he’d been fearing all along - ‘why I didn’t wanna start dating you’, ‘ruining everything’, ‘never acted this way before’. Gabriel let out a deep breath and closed his eyes, knowing he’d said too much and wondering what she was going to do now. There was a tug at his gut at her words, his heart sinking as he came down from what he’d been feeling, the anger dissipating and morphing into panic. There was no use in telling her what he’d come over for. It would only sound like an excuse and his apology wouldn’t seem genuine. Gabriel remained quiet, nodding to himself as her words rang in his head. ‘You would've never acted this way before.’ She was right. He would’ve never said what he said, he would’ve never raised his voice, he would’ve never cursed. Sergio was fucking him up, even now. “I’m sorry...” he tried again, leaning against the counter as he tried to ignore how hard and fast his heart was beating. What had he done?
While Spencer had noticed that Gabe clearly was feeling some regret for the things that he said, it was already much too late. The damage had been done. The idea of losing Gabe made her eyes sting with unshed tears - that was something that she knew that she could never handle. “I can’t do this if you’re going to keep doing this.” Spencer’s voice was quiet, and she made her way towards the table so she could sit down and try to calm herself down. “I can’t be worried that you’re going to be reading my texts even when I haven’t done anything wrong. I can’t worry that every time I joke around and call someone hot... that you’ll be there, seething. That’s not fair, Gabe.” She sniffled, looking down at her hands in her lap. “Maybe this was a mistake. I... I feel like this is really messing us up. I was worried about this.”
“I wouldn’t... I -“ Gabriel stopped with a shake of his head, his hands tightening to fists because he was so frustrated with himself. He’d made it so Spencer couldn’t trust him to be jealous of little things; he’d made it so she couldn’t trust him in general. ‘Maybe this was a mistake’, Spencer said and he couldn’t help but sharply take in a breath quietly at that, shutting his eyes in an attempt to not cry. This was all his fault. This was his doing and he knew there’d be consequences for what he said. Fighting back the urge to wrap his arms around her and apologize for what he’d done, Gabriel pursed his lips then shoved his hands in his pockets. “You don’t have to say it, Spence” he sighed, knowing where the conversation was headed, “you don’t - you... I - I know what’s happening. You don’t have to say it. You don’t... I know. I know. You didn’t want this and I pushed it and... I know. Just don’t say it. I know.”
It almost broke Spencer's heart to watch the way Gabe was falling apart in front of her. Even though he had been the one to say everything that he did, he still regretted it. "Stop," Spencer said quietly, doing her best not to cry. When she imagined a relationship with Gabe, it was beautiful. They didn't fight and they were just happy. This? This was not happiness. Not in the slightest. "If this is how it's always going to be... I can't do this with you. I don't think we can do this." Spencer swallowed the lump in her throat, closing her eyes and not being able to help the tears that fell. "I love you so much," Spencer whispered, looking up at Gabe and it was easy to tell that she was broken from this. "I love you, but.. This is ruining our friendship. You can't just waltz in here and act like towards me and expect me to be okay with it. I don't want to be stuck in a relationship where someone acts like that, but I don't want to lose you as a friend either so..." Spencer buried her face in her hands, trying to calm the crying down. A few minutes later, she pulled her hands away from her face and mumbled, "I can't, Gabe. I'm sorry."
‘I don’t want to be stuck in a relationship where someone acts like that.’ Gabriel understood and in fact, couldn’t blame her for it. In Spencer’s eyes, it was simple - he’d come over and without even greeting her, he’d immediately gotten mad at her, cursing at her in a way he hadn’t before. The only change in their dynamic was that they were now dating; it wasn’t hard to put two and two together. For him, there was a reason for what he did and now that he’d calmed down and had assessed the situation, he could see it through her eyes. Of course he could try to explain himself and tell her that he’d found out who his father was and where to find him, but that would now only serve as an excuse for his out-of-line behavior, not a reason as to why he’d come over. It was simple - Spencer was trying to do what was best for her; he only ever wanted her to be happy, and this? This wasn’t best for her happiness. Perhaps he’d been living in a fantasy-land, one where he got the girl and lived happily ever after. Though perhaps, they were meant to only be friends. Gabriel didn’t realize he’d been crying silently until he tasted something uncannily salty on his upper lip, a deep breath escaping his lips as he realized they’d both been crying for a while now. ‘I can’t.’ Gabriel nodded, knowing what was coming. ‘I’m sorry.’ It was then that he shook his head, kneeling before her and placing his hands on her knees, “don’t apologize. I... I was a dick. I... yeah. You’re doing the right thing.” A pause. “I will always love you, Spencer. Always. I’m sorry I proved you right.” Gently, Gabriel squeezed her knees before getting up, pressing his lips to her forehead and deciding right then and there that he’d deal with Sergio on his own. This was no longer Spencer’s problem to deal with - he was no longer her problem - he could do it without her. “I’m gonna go. I’ll, uh... I’ll see you at school.”
As soon as Gabe started agreeing with almost everything she said, Spencer started regretting everything that she had just said. Gabe was the person that she had completely given herself to, and now she was telling him that they were better off as friends. The moments right after their first time flashed in her mind as they told each other how much that they loved one another. At this moment, it seemed as if she would never love another as much as she did Gabe. Love was simple. What she felt for Gabe was so much more than love, and now she was the one ending things. In the end, though, their friendship was entirely more important - she couldn’t bare to lose him completely, and she wondered if their fights continued like this they would push each other away from another. A fight like this was something that they could survive, right? They had to. At least, Spencer hoped. “I can’t survive without you,” she finally whispered, hanging her head down. "I just... I can't. I can't lose you, Gabe." She let out a shaky breath, trying to figure out where they could go from here. She wasn't really sure, but she knew that she needed some space. "I don't want to end this, but.. I think I need some space. It's just a lot right now, okay? I just... need space. After all of this."
Space. Perhaps it was the lesser of two evils; the choice you'd prefer if your back was against the wall and you had to pick the one that hurt least. Space. It wasn't the end, but it certainly meant that everything was on the rocks. Gabriel knew that he couldn't be selfish and demand something from her, so he stayed quiet and nodded as she spoke, knowing that this was the best choice for her. If she needed space because of him, then that was something he would have to deal with. It was a direct consequence of his actions. In the back of his mind, he knew this was an important and mature step to take in order to not ruin what they'd built - space would probably save their relationship and friendship in the long run, even if it hurt now. "Okay" he agreed with a nod and a sigh, grabbing one of her hands in his and smiling sadly to himself, sniffling as he tried to pull himself together. "Okay" he repeated as he braced himself to walk away, "just talk to me when you're ready, okay? I'm sorry... I - I'm sorry for all this shit. It's my fault, I -" he stopped, not continuing in case he said more than he meant to, "I'm just... sorry." Gabriel shrugged, letting her hand go as he pursed his lips. "Yeah, uh... I'm just gonna go." A pause. "I love you. I promise."
