Letters From Home || Ella and Nolan
Joining the army had been one of the many things that Nolan was proud that he'd done. However, spending the past nine months in Afghanistan surrounded by nothing but murderous cries and hearing gunshots at various periods throughout the night was something that Nolan didn't think he'd ever get used to. It seemed to set up a kind of depression in him, one that he didn't think he could overcome, however, Nolan knew that this was all part of the process. He had gotten a very strong case of homesickness, the last few days, and he'd written countless letters to his parents, but had yet to receive a reply. It was days like this when he really wished he were back home, instead of out here, risking his life. With paper and pen in hand, he began to write, unsure of what to say.
If you have received this letter, I would like that thank you in advance for taking the time to read this letter. It means a lot to me, a fellow American that you would take the time to read a letter from a complete stranger. Times have been harder recently, and I've found it more a struggle to keep going, and keep holding on. I keep asking myself why I did this; signing up for the Army when I'm having such major regrets about it now. Gunshots being fired every five minutes, loosing countless hours of sleep because of it. It's all too much, but I can't make it go away. However, I'm grateful to be doing this for my country, and that there are citizens of America that are grateful for what I'm doing. I hope your having a good day, and that things are going well for you.
