the placement of the tree is not final, but we did it. i know it being by the door is asking for trouble but that's where all the space and the outlet is. nova said the tree is beautiful and reminds her of a ballerina(idk what that means but she said it so it's law.) we got plastic ornaments bc i am not about to deal with glass even on carpet. apparently ornaments don't come with hangers so we just put them straight on the branches. makes it harder for the cat to play with them too. we don't have a star yet. i love red and i don't like the color combination of red and green so here we are with a white tree. the other option was black and i was down but i let everyone else have an input on it and ryan liked the white and red. i wrapped a few gifts and i finally understand a molecule of the frustrations my siblings and i put on my mom. i made the mistake of telling nova i was wrapping some of her gifts and she has been begging nonstop to open them and help wrap them. i have a feeling she might open them when i'm not looking so now i get why mom waited until the last minute lol. i've always been the person that says "over my dead body will i have a Christmas tree" but the kids really wanted one this year and i can't say no to that. so slowly but surely i will one day MAYBE become a christmas person. i do at least a little bit like this tree and so do the kids. #kidspost #christmas #christmastree #danigetsfestive https://www.instagram.com/p/CIMwnO1BfJi/?igshid=645abd5vzauc

Presidents Portraits, New Colors (for Washington Post's KidsPost), sumi ink, pen & digital.
After having finished the initial 43 illustrations of the American presidents for the Washington Post's Inauguration paper, I was contacted by Kim Vu, the art director of the KidsPost section, for the possibility of running the illustrations again as a Sunday kids special. I loved the idea, and was thrilled about the idea of these portraits getting a new life in a new context.
We gave each of the 43 presidents a new color wash -- either a golden orange wash for having had more than one term in office, or a pale teal wash for being a one term president. I liked seeing some of the one term presidents with the color wash, like those above.
Thanks again to Janet Michaud for the assignment, and to Kim Vu for the wonderful use of the portraits in the KidsPost.
