Kid Tini- Preach
After recently dropping his introductory body of work titled “Coming of Age”, Kid Tini does best with this follow-up music video of “Preach”.
Interesting to see where the Kid will go with Cashtime rumours spreading fast.
Peep the minimalist video right after the jump!
A Matured Entrance from the Kid
“The story of change, moments of shame. The story of loss and the story of gain. Welcome to my life, the coming of age.” These are the words you hear from the young Tinism Dot Com artist explaining, in short, what his story is about on this project. Kid Tini is the latest young rapper to be added on the seemingly fast growing list of talented young stars. It is a very exciting time for a Hip Hop lover like me as the past couple of months (or year or so) has shown that the future of the love of my life is bright.
Kid Tini burst onto the scene with a track titled “If The Shoe Fits” where he came out slinging sharp raps and wordplay that was seemingly above his weight group. It was very difficult to doubt the talent showcased by the kid and he managed to even gain the attention of wordsmiths like Captain, Blaklez and PDot O.
Crafting nice bars is a totally different challenge than putting together a project. We have seen many talented MCs that have faltered when it comes to putting together a full body of work. Thanks to Kid Tini’s raw talent, determination and amazing team at Tinism, he did not fail to deliver. Coming of Age is as solid a debut project you can find anywhere in the country.
The first thing that stands out about the kid is his ear for dope beats at such a tender age, both literally and in the game. The production is mainly handled by the hugely unknown but equally talented Tone Jonez and it is something to marvel over. Secondly, it is incredible to see how Kid Tini did not just let the production carry the tape. He managed to match every dope beat with an impressive array of bars, storytelling and fabulous hooks. His style of rap is consistent, yet so versatile. Listening to him switch flows, styles and tones on each song without losing his identity is something to adore. A lot of rappers tend to sound like other people when they’re trying to borrow from their style, not this one.
On the production front, there is also a blind (literally blind) producer who goes by the name of MayjC who studies at Wits. This is all part of a very inspiring story that shows that anything is possible with hard work and talent. The production are as minimal as the artist features as he only features the two singing sensational producers in J Smallz and Tone Jonez in “Sextape” and “Running Back To You” respectively. The stage is open for him to shine and he does just that.
You find yourself within a boxing match full of punchlines stronger than Mike Tyson’s in his time (Coming of Age). Kid Tini then delves on everything from his time in the grimy streets of iGcuwa (Ghetto), reminiscing on his high school love (Running Back To You), his struggles with his family (No favours) and his time being carved to perfection by the Tinism Dot Com team. It is a complete story, as he points out to you in the intro. I personally really got taken aback with the level of precision and attention to detail h he exhibits in his storytelling. Painting pictures with words is not a skill every rapper possesses, especially at his young age.
To quote a popular phrase; “You can never make a first impression twice.” Kid Tini had made sure that every rap circle, radio compilers and casual listener gets treated to a great listen without jumping all over the place. Coming of Age is a carefully crafted project, a strong entrance that is also very refreshing to the ear. The challenge is now on him to keep the consistency and use this strong entrance to the game as a springboard for even greater heights.
“I was told to fight every fight, not necessarily to win or lose but to learn something new each time.” – Kid Tini
