Oops, I’m back on my soapbox again.
I don’t know why, but this comment in particular really irked me. The blatant nasty and homophobic nonsense I can usually rolls my eyes at and scroll past. But THIS. This bothered me. And I’m going to tell you why.
Do you have any idea how hard Vlogmas is? How much time, energy, and effort goes into it? Think about it: a video every single day, for an entire month. That means no laying about on weekends. That means staying up late into the night to edit, and getting up early in the morning to prepare. That means very little time for yourself and that means making sure every time you film, you’re filming something your viewers will find interesting. Just thinking about it gives me anxiety.
But Vinny and Luke decided to give it a go for no other reason than the fact that we wanted it. We asked for it. And they decided to give it to us because they love what they do and they wanted to make us happy.
And then this comment pops up. And you know what it does? It belittles everything they’ve done. It tells them they’re not good enough, that their efforts are only serving to mimic those of other youtubers. It’s MEAN is what it is. It’s an attack that is completely unjustified, but serves it’s purpose nonetheless; to get under Vinny and Luke’s skin.
There is no validity to this mean-spirited comment. The similarities between Mark and Ethan and V2 begin and end with the fact that both couples are happy, in love, and on youtube. That’s is. Period. But what gives this statement power is the fact that it’s by far one of the most hurtful things you can say to a youtuber. It’s like a knife right in the heart of every video they’ve ever shared, and the fact that someone thought it was an appropriate thing to say to two people who are currently breaking their backs and losing sleep in order to give us a video every day really grates on my nerves.
Don’t be the person that makes someone else feel bad on purpose, okay? Just don’t do it.
End rant.
