Project refers to the degradation of folk aesthetics from the Podhale region (Carpathian mountains) in the context of popularizing tourism and souvenir culture. It aims to expose the demoralization of visual traditions in relation with “souvenir capitalism”, so called production of local culture (or rather the production of it for tourist use). The forms of local folk culture generated with this intention are intended to satisfy tourists, and are adapted to their ideas about how folk art should look like. Contemporary Podhalan craft hybrids itself somewhere between local myths and popcultural pantheon.
