Kiesjell
This is a pudding of fermented grains. The taste is certainly not suited for everyone... I like to blend it with some banana and a sweetner because I cannot get it past my taste buds on its own. Despited the strange taste, this 'pudding' is as heatlhy as it can get. It even exists with glutenfree grains... Kiesjell originated, according to the legend, in Ukraine in the 10th century and is derived from the word kieslie which means sour in russian. And sour it is! The legend says that Kiev, under siege by the ennemie was on the verge of starvation. A little bit of grain and some sour honeydrink was all there was to fill the stomachs of the poor citizens. One old man got the idea to mix the drink and the grains. Kiesjell was born... Weeks past and the ennemie had no clue why the city hadn't given up already. The citizens of Kiev were still so heatlhy and strong with their small portion of kiesjell, that the ennemie gave up on the siege and left Kiev with their tails between their legs.
To hide the sour taste, I like blending it with banana or mango and some lucuma. And of course, topping it with some home made granola... :)
