Psychometry among the Kiffar
Every Kiffar is born with the ability to read images off of objects, called telemetry or psychometry. The strength of the ability varies and is influenced by a number of factors, including Force-sensitivity, if the individual is 'full' Kiffar or not, and if the individual has been trained on how to use the ability.
Those with weak psychometry cannot control the ability. They will occasionally have flashes of sight, sound, smell, or emotion tied to an object or surface they are touching with their bare hands. They cannot intentionally read an object, only receiving those visions that come randomly or from particularly strong impressions.
Those with middling ability have more immersive visions from their psychometry. Their visions often begin with bright flashes of light or impenetrable darkness. If these individuals are untrained, the visions can be exceedingly painful, often leaving them unconscious. These visions are often jumbled and confusing. Without training, they are at high risk of becoming 'stuck' in their visions, losing the ability to differentiate vision from reality.
Thankfully, training and experience can help the individual with both problems. Acclimating to the use of this 'sixth sense' becomes easier the more it's used. Training helps them learn the proper mindset to keep track of and understand their visions.
Those with a high level of psychometric ability are able to gather much more information with their abilities. They're able to see entire memories in visions and to seek out the information they want, such as searching for a specific memory or choosing a different point of view for the vision. Like those with middling ability, they must receive training to control the skill so it doesn't control them.
