A quick thingy on how I came up with Kilah’s full name.

Aisha “Kilah” Chiaro.

Aisha was found either through a Fantasy Name Generator or a list of Fantasy names. I think it was also used, at first, as the name for another character from a completely different story I wrote. So yes, I stole it from myself. Coincidentally, when translated from Arabic, it means “She Who Lives.” Strangely fitting considering she is the sole survivor of the white tiger animorphuses. 

Since Kilah spends the first half of Dawn of Monochrome trapped in her tiger form, assumed by almost everyone to be an ordinary white tiger, the name Kilah, (“Deception”) was ideal for her, though I recall it being nothing but a haphazard jumble of syllables, combined until her name sounded fitting. Previous to this, in the very first draft of S.o.D, her name was Nala. I was 7, don’t @ me.

Her last name, Chiaro, is derived from Chiaroscuro, an Italian art term referring to the tonal contrast of light and shadow. It goes without seeing that this is a reference to her achromatic pelt, and the overall message of the S.o.D books.

Every one of my characters actually has a pretty cool origin story for their names, so I’ll definitely post some more of these in the future! : )
