Some concept art for Faraway!!

The character design for Faraway came into my head almost instantaneously. The ethereal name prompted a visual of a blue rabbit-like character with large, empty eye sockets and a small body. I weighed many options while designing this character, such as whether to give him antlers or ears, mouth or no mouth, four or two legs and what shape his eyes should be. I did my best to avoid making him look disturbing or creepy, or too much like any other existing character, such as a Pokemon. 

After an hour or so of working on concept art, this was my favourite design. It is partly inspired by the characters from the “Pon and Zi” comics, as well as the Japnese Kodama Spirits from Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke. As you can see, I removed his whiskers for the cover concept. Not sure if he looks better with or without but I do love how he turned out. What do you guys think? Xo

The Colour of Paint...
