all these nerds in the pizza spot are ruining my post-work slice ritual
i hate elon musk and his fans so fucking much. they’re the epitome of everything i hate about technophile culture and stembros.
people have gamergate all wrong
all this shit we’ve been seeing with gamergate and the alt-right cuckspiracy theorists? none of it’s new. the kind of culture that fostered this dates back decades. and we’ve been getting previews for years: death threats to a bioware staffer for comments she made. death threats over gay relationships in dragon age 2. death threats over dragon age 2, period. death threats over mass effect 3. death threats over a tasteless joke in torment: tides of numenara being removed. death threats over a minor tweak to balance in call of duty black ops (which calls to mind the temper tantrums counter-strike players had over every new friggin' update.)
it's not just video games either -- death threats to people who were upset by an alternate cover for a batgirl issue ffs. and then more death threats when the artist had the cover pulled because of the death threats. this is going to keep happening as long as we pretend geek culture isn't just a long history of toxic masculinity, hidebound conservativism, boys'-club misogyny, perpetual resentment of a percieved societal rejection and a self-satisfied sense of moral and intellectual superiority.
it's easy to ignore gamergate as angry young men lashing out because the industry culture has outgrown the narrow definition imposed by 90's marketing which they base their entire personal identity on, but the truth is, it's geek culture itself that has created this. the only way to end gamergate is to end geek culture.
you heard me. geek culture is bullshit, period. it's historically white and male, because it has roots in nerdy white boys being excluded and ostracized from a society that is traditionally pretty pro-white dude, because they didn't meet cultural standards of masculinity, but they still have all the privilege that comes with being white dudes -- they're just too self-pitying to see it. it's just another form of othering, and trying to "take over" what was from the outset a toxic, insular, resentful culture isn't gonna go anywhere good.
i hate this shit. can't we all just play video games and watch stupid superhero movies? why does one's personal taste in entertainment need some sort of flag to rally around? shit, my mom's into ancient architecture and my dad used to make models when he was alive. even frat boys do fantasy football. either everyone's a geek or nobody's a geek and either way there's nothing left to be geeky about. do we need more representation of women and ethnic and sexual minorities in comic books and video games and movies? absolutely. but we need to let our identities stand for themselves, not try to own a culture that only exists because of toxic masculinity and shitty social norms in the first place.
Holy shit, Simon Pegg bringing the fire. Hell yeah.
Great read right here, http://popist.com/s/0a6685f
Ryan Broderick is right. We should ban all nerds off the internet, starting with this faggot weeaboo:
Should we start an anti nerd gestapo?
destroy that pregnancy test meme or whatever seriously
Is it a natural human instinct to destroy those who are fascinated with science?
