my week in media* [ 15-21 february 2026 ]
[ dropping ]
Mr and Mrs. Smith - Paused for now. The plot is not what I thought it would be so that was disappointing. And the tone of it is a lot more indie than I expected. I like indie but it has been awhile since I've watched anything truly offbeat, so I'm not used to it. I will most likely look up how the season ends, because it doesn't look like a season two is coming, and if it ends on a heinous cliffhanger, I will drop it for good.
[ finishing ]
Kill Lover {2.5 stars} - I literally had to look at my notes for my rating, because I have already forgotten everything about it. I think this is my first "soap style" Chinese drama and it wasn't great. It started out good, got slow after they admitted feelings, then picked up at the end. I normally don't mind the "newly in love montage/day before all hell breaks loose" thing but this time it just dragged. The revenge plots were entertaining though so I mostly enjoyed the rest of it. It just didn't stick.
[ reading ]
Earthly Fires by Rachel500 - 9-1-1/SG1 crossover that's mostly 9-1-1
The Fall by Tal Bauer - When I started this book I thought it'd be a one (long) day read, but turns out it's over 800 pages. I'm 100 pages in and so far it's emotional, angsty and there's lots of hockey (also smoking hot sex, as expected from this author). I know it's early, but I already think this is going to be another Tal Bauer winner. I just wish I could read it in paperback instead of ebook. posting day edit: I'm posting later than usual, because I can't put this book down. It is full of angsty goodness and I love it. Also, it might be magical realism? Jury is still out on that.
[ watching ]
Me and Who, ep 5-6 - I say it every time, but it's true every time. I love this show. It's funny and a little silly and everyone is having a great time. And the episodes I watched this week brought some fantastic kisses. Yay. My full recap is here.
To My Shore, ep 1-5 - I like it, but neither of the mains are great emoters (one stoic in a relationship is great, two not so much), so at this point I'm more emotionally invested in Lu Zhen. And he might have just left the storyline for awhile.
