LINNET: When the screaming started, so did the ringing in Linnet’s ears.
She was, by nature, always sensitive to noise, whether someone mumbling under their breath in a library or another someone screaming their head off. But she had known her fellow music-talents to take issue with the discord. Not Linnet; she could find power in it. Usually.
But soon as that old pub door squealed on its hinges, soon as that man’s boots made the wood planks groan– her heart had ticked up. The panic was in her throat before he’d said a word. When he started to bellow? It was too much.
She knew she hadn’t even shown up but she’d wanted to show her support. She’d wanted to prove she could do it. Stay far back, keep with her friends, and she’d be fine, like that night in the woods never happened.
