Spooky Video Game Music No. 326: Spinal- ‪Killer Instinct 2 (Arcade/N64/Xbox One/PC/Steam)‬

After Eyedol has been defeated in the last game by Orchid, a time warp takes some of the fighters into 2,000 years in the past with the evil demon Gargos free from his prison. Some of the returning characters along with some new ones have new stories and of course, our favorite skeleton returns again. Despite that he was defeated by Chief Thunder in the last game, the Spinal from the past is still an undead skeleton who was kept alive thanks to Gargos’ magic. However, he wants to fight Gargos to remove his magic and finally rest in peace. In order to do so, he has to fight the other characters, sometimes in his ship where a skeleton army rows through the ocean…

Compared to his theme in the first game which is intimidating and scary, his theme in Killer Instinct 2 is more aggressive while keeping that scary tone from before. The bone like drums and other instruments give off the feeling of battle as if Spinal wants to challenge anyone in his path to a duel. The chanting add more to that war like tone as if other skeletons are chanting for Spinal to win the battle. Even with all of that, the song still sounds scary as if to show how strong Spinal is and fits the spooky motif given him being an undead skeleton warrior. Even though I do still prefer his theme from the first game, this one still sounds awesome and would definitely fit for Halloween. 🎃
