Dead By Daylight Killer Tips: Totems

Never head straight for your totem once the game begins. I've seen so many killers make this mistake. Yes, a survivor may spawn right next to it but, that's not all the time. Instead look for survivors. (Heading to your totems location will give it's position away easily.)

2. Never puppy guard your totems. Another killer mistake I see all the time. By doing this you can be easily gen rushed and if the survivors don't know you have a totem, you have easily given away it's location.

3. Always trap your totems if you happen to be a killer with traps. Survivors can be dumb sometimes and go for your totem again and again even when you have it trapped.

4. Read your totem perks before using them! Now I'm really suppressed to see this happen a lot, but I can't stress this enough! DON'T SOFT PATROL/FACE CAMP WITH "DEVOUR OF HOPE"!!! It even says you have to be a certain amount of distance for it to work.

If you don't know how far 24 meters is, the perk will light up when you are far enough away from the hook.

5. Never be dependent on your totems. Reason why is that sometimes survivors will take out your totems once the games begin, that means you must have a back up perks, practice mind games, and learn how to be a good killer. (I don't mean that in a mean way. You litterly need to know how to be a good killer in order to win your games.)

6. "Haunted grounds" And "Thrill of The Hunt" Are good perks to protect your totems.

7. No matter how many people complain about it. Ruin is a good perk especially when you dont want to be gentle rushed. Don't be afraid to use it.

Ages ago someone asked if I was able to do tips for Killers, but at the time I didn’t play Killer as much. I still don’t, but here are the perks I use most often when I’m playing my big murder boys (or my big murder ladies!):

Deerstalker: This comes in handy when you’re trying to keep track of downed survivors when the hatch has spawned and there’s another survivor left. While this does mean you have to slug, and some people get annoyed by that, it works and makes it easier to find that survivor that crawled away when you had two people downed together.

Sloppy Butcher: It’s good when survivors use Self-Care. It makes healing slower and gives you more time to find those pesky survivors for your eldritch boss in the sky.

Bloodhound (The Wraith Teachable: Available at Level 35): I suck at following blood trails! It helps when survivors try to sneak away from you after turning sharp corners. Not needed if you’re purposely taking everyone to either The Game or The Institute (my favorite maps! not because I can’t track but I like the ominous feeling of being in a closed off space with only two exits).

Hex: Huntress Lullaby (The Huntress Teachable: Available at Level 40): Do you want to piss survivors off? This is the right perk, then. Every time you hook a survivor while the Totem is still active, you get a token that messes with Generator Skill Checks. 1-4 tokens delay the sound queue and the actual Skill Check. 5 tokens get rid of the sound queue in general. Makes games longer while survivors are looking for that damned totem!

Hex: Thrill of the Hunt: Good alongside all other Totems, except Haunted Grounds.  You want survivors to get that one! Anyways, this Hex gives you five tokens at the start of the game, meaning there are five totems on the map. You gain extra blood points in the Hunter category for each totem! Nice. Survivors take a longer period of time to cleanse totems, and you are given a notification when one of them starts cleansing your other Hex Totems.

Make Your Choice (The Pig Teachable: Available at Level 40): When survivors rescue another from a hook a certain distance from you, the rescuer becomes Exposed and can be instantly placed in the dying state. This lasts (when in tier 3) 50 seconds. Makes it easier to get another survivor on the hook without tunneling.

Whispers: This perk makes finding survivors a little easier.  When with a certain range of a survivor, this perk activates, and the big spider god in the sky will whisper weird shit in your ears until you find the survivor. You’re boss just wants to help you!

Spirit Fury (The Spirit Teachable: Available at Level 30): This comes in handy sometimes. You know when you’re chasing a survivor around but they keep using pallets? Well, here you go! After breaking a certain amount of pallets, the next time you get hit, you immediately break that pallet. Sadly, you still suffer the stun effect.

Discordance (The Legion Teachable: Available at Level 30): Having trouble finding survivors? Don’t worry, here’s another perk to help you out! Discordance highlights generators for you when they have more than one survivor working on it! It lasts for 12 seconds on tier 3.

Mad Grit (The Legion Teachable: Available at Level 35): Tired of survivors trying to body block you while you’re trying to put their friend's shoulder onto a meat hook for your boss? Don’t worry, this is the perk for you! Mad Grit punishes all of the survivors and gives you some sweet benefits. You suffer no cooldown after hitting survivors or missing that one hit, as well as pauses the wiggle timer of the survivor your carrying.

Overcharge (The Doctor Teachable: Available at Level 40): Progress? In MY trial? I don’t think so. Overcharge not only regresses a damaged generator but the next survivor to touch that generator will be given a difficult Skill Check immediately. Failing the skill check causes additional progress regression.

A Nurse’s Calling (The Nurse Teachable: Available at Level 40): Healing? In my lobby? No thanks. With A Nurse’s Calling, the auras of those damned survivors trying to heal one another or themselves are revealed to with. Within a specific range, of course. 

And there we have it! All of the perks I use when I play Killer. Like I said, I don’t play killer that often. When I do I’m playing Amanda or Wraith. I like stealth, it’s fun scaring people. Anyways, if you use these perks, good luck, have a dope day!
