Dammit if Lucien’s face doesn’t light up when Joy walks into a room.
no rest for the wicked// peri + matthew
(( @killing-joy continued from here! ))
Partying and dancing wasn’t really her thing. A shameful thing, given that pretty much everyone and their retainers (and that ninja guy, Ryoma’s) knew how to dance, and were probably still doing so, only using the balcony when they needed to retreat from such a place. Even from up there, she could listen to the music, the music group playing for what seemed to be an eternity.
And quickly, she turned around when she felt someone, moving a hand to her hip. She found a familiar face behind a suit; or, well, wearing one, which was even stranger. Peri couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
“You know… of all things, I didn’t think you were invited or gonna wear a suit.”
And just like that, his easy smile faded just a notch. He'd not known exactly what manner of greeting he might have been expecting after last they parted ways, but... this wasn't it.
Not even a ‘hello.’
Moving to the balcony beside her, he set his arms on the railing and glanced up at the sky, then at the bonfires and wild throngs of people down below. “It almost feels as though all the realms have been invited, really...” His eyes flicked up to Peri, his gaze questioning. "And I can clean up, sometimes," he said, quiet, almost pensive.
He shrugged, noncommittal. "I even managed a dance or two, I'll have you know, but... needed to duck out a moment, take a breather.” Collect his thoughts. Maybe collect another drink, too. “What brings you out here, away from the party?"

Hello daughter from another timeline, another me… a gayer me?
winks seductively, I never threaded with the previous Peri but there was a baby meme about what potential kids would be like and that’s where she comes from.
Peri offers you an egg in this trying time. It's a chocolate egg, there's a toy car inside.
Setsuna bites into the egg, unknowing that there is anything more than chocolate. She coughs out the car in surprise and wonders if Peri’s finally trying to kill her for looking like a maid.
Vroom vroom.
L. (That's a letter, right?)
but is it a love letter?
(Had Xander gone, gods forbid, would Camilla have taken the throne in his place?)
Camilla would never really want the throne. The only way she’d ever step up to the plate would be via the death of all the rest of her siblings, and even then, that’d be a special circumstance - she’d be on the front lines to defend them and her home, because she’ll defend her family and those she loves until her last breath. If she’s alive and without them, well…
She’s not like Hinoka.
It would never make her happy to become Queen - leading so many people and being under constant public scrutiny would make her continually anxious, and she doesn’t enjoy paperwork either. She wants to make a home she never had, and be able to love her own children as she was never loved in her youth, and be able to raise them away from the constant infighting of Nohr. She has to be in control of things in her purview, so I think a country is too large and always out of control.
Each of the Nohr Sibs has a role - and it may seem on the surface that she’d be good at looking after people owing to her motherly personality, but her biggest enemy is actually herself. She’d destroy herself with self-doubt when put in the public eye until she couldn’t take it any more. She constantly fears being left alone and unwanted, and has trouble trusting those outside of her very tight social circle.
Camilla is very severe and scared of loss. The softness, the alluring way she talks is something she’s cultivated to make people love her. On the battlefield, she revels in her role as a fearsome, unrelenting opponent, an experienced warrior with accolades and a reputation as a merciless monster to her enemies. She’s proud of that, too.
It’s also interesting if you look at Camilla’s retainers as reflections of herself:
Selena was always striving to reach her mother’s high standards, she’s antagonistic and rather bitter, and she prides herself on her looks and her style. She’s a woman of class, despite not being a titled lady. But she’s loyal, and once you’ve got her in your confidence, she’s kind. Her attitude is a product of her environment.
Beruka, on the other hand, is a girl made into a weapon. She grew up deprived of many things, made ready to kill from very early in her youth. She struggles to understand the emotions of others and has trouble divorcing her job from her reason to live. But even then… She’s very caring, and there’s a very sweet and devoted core to her.
So Camilla wouldn’t want to take the throne, no. It’s not in her nature. She might try, but she’d be a wreck without Xander around and if Leo was alive he’d make a much better leader, so she’d abdicate in his favour. He’s a much better and more meticulous planner, and he doesn’t let his feelings colour his actions like Camilla does.

Unfriendly || Peri + Matthew
( @killing-joy
continued from here~)
It had been a quiet, uneventful journey. Small talk reigned between bouts of comfortable silence, the carriage's wheels smoothly rolling along beneath them.
Matthew, for his part, dozed at random times of both day and night. Sometimes he'd sit out by the front and watch the moon, more often than not wearing a distant expression as he did so. Other times he'd jot down notes on parchment he'd brought along with him - mostly thoughts on what he'd learned of Nohr so far, information he could use to compile a dossier entry about it once he returned to Elibe.
Upon arriving at the small border city, things began to change gears. Walking beside the horse, a hand patting lightly at its neck, Matthew glanced over at Peri. She had to have noticed the suspicious glances their presence was gathering, right? The townsfolk's whispers seemed equally conspiratorial in tone, though they were a fraction more difficult to ignore.
"... Peri... that establishment you'd mentioned is close to here, right...?"
