I feel like I'm always spelling the first part of their name wrong when I type it. Or fail to guess a URL. ANYWAY! I was at the Killing Horse Records 3-year anniversary show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ last Friday evening [yes, I do cross the rivers to attend shows, not just when I'm playing them], and one of the stand-out performances was by Cicada Radio, a band I haven't seen play in over a year or so. They pretty dang good before, but I was really impressed with their set and what seems to be perhaps a shift in their tone or tune-age, or however one should put it. Used to be more screamo-core (or... shout-emo?), and now it sounds more like an emo hardcore act being informed by Modest Mouse or Built To Spill, things are getting more intricate and there's more going on. In particular, this tune went over dang well with me and the rest of the crowd:

Funny thing, the rhythm guitar that night was "low" compared to this recorded arrangement, and the bass was a lot louder, everything rode on the drums and that bass line, the rhythm guitar really at a just-right volume thanks to a Marshall head that wasn't cooperating, and it sounded gorgeous.
In sum: really impressed with how far these guys have come, and they had their own audience of die-hard fans to show for it, who knew a lot of the lyrics. Nice work, fellas.
