hmmm azu headcanon. not to explicitly tailor (hah) this to you, charlie, but i like the idea of azu being good with like. clothing? but explicitly with dying clothes and such, not stuff like embroidery. she’s a bit too clumsy for that, but she has a really good eye for colors and design, and was one of the people in her village who everyone would go to when they needed new fabrics for one of the village celebrations. they would bring her some plain fabric and she would make them absolutely beautiful, normally favoring reds bc that’s one of the colors that her tribe really enjoyed. (also, this can go hand in hand with any tailor!hamid hc. they open a shop together.)

Half the time, Sasha has trouble telling apart dreams from reality. 

(She mentioned it once, to Zolf, on the airship to Prague, and he had given her this look that was so filled with concern that for a moment she couldn’t breathe and she was drowning in that look — in the ocean that still commanded him. For no other reason than she had never been looked at like that before, like someone would care if she knew which way was up or down. But it was hard for him to express that concern, so neither said anything else, and it swept away, water under a bridge.) (No, it was a piece of trash that got stuck to the support beams, struggling. Both of them, struggling, but still there.)

Paris was a nightmare. Paris was real. 

Paris was a real nightmare.

This is why she has trouble telling dreams and reality apart: Paris happened, it was so unreal, but it happened. And then a part of it didn’t happen, they only thought it did. 

Fucking hell, magic is not worth the price. 

She looks at her hand and tries to figure out which part of her is a dream and which is reality. 

She is dead. She is alive. She was dead, she is not quite alive. 

Did she actually die? 

Zolf said the pieces of her were in a machine, but they kept her alive. She was put back properly but she came back wrong. 

Maybe before that, in the catacombs. She washed up broken on the shore (not the first time) and was repaired like a child’s toy (not the first time). Can’t afford a new one, patch up the old one — even though the joints are wrong and the hair is stringy and the left eye doesn’t close anymore. 

Paris is gone. (Zolf is gone.) It is replaced by Prague. (He is replaced by Grizzop.) 

Bertie is gone (he does not get replaced). Fuck, how does she even feel about that. 

Empty, hollow, just one foot in front of the other because it’s not like Hamid is able to keep it together. It’s not like Grizzop actually understands the weird weight of this loss. 

One foot in front of the other (not the first time). Friends mean funerals in her line of work (Bertie has neither when it comes to her). This isn’t the first time. It won’t be the last. 

One foot in front of the other because even if she can’t tell dream from reality then the least she can do is take it moment by moment at a time. Each trap each lock each and every stone. This she can do. This she knows like the back of her hand reality or not this will never change. 

She’ll keep going. Not because she has to, but because she wants to. 

The world is bigger than she ever knew it to be, far more vicious and cruel than it had been even under Barret’s thumb. But it’s beautiful and frightening and she wants to pick it apart lock by lock, trap by trap, until she can make sense of its inner workings spread out in the palm of her hands. 

So she’ll keep going.
