jerma would be a great ace attorney character. can you imagine they call him up as a witness and you give like a single barely consequential piece of evidence and he somehow in questioning has three breakdowns and talks himself up to a life sentence
deltarune's odd release schedule is so good for lots of reasons but one of my faves is because the mark it will leave on the internet before it's finished is going to be nigh incomprehensible to all future generations of fans.
as a newcomer to the fandom past the game's completion you will have to fucking WADE through an outdated content LANDFILL if you intend on watching any kind of video or looking through any kind of post here's a diagram
i could've shown you a very different poster, but i didn't. you can thank me later.
(review and analysis under the cut)
alright, alright, that subtitle is an awfully prudish way of talking about this thing, so let me clarify--this isn't porn. we can argue about how much artistic value we should place in porn, and i do have thoughts, but that's a whole other discussion for the simple reason that, as perverse as this thing can be, it simply isn't cut from the same cloth, unlike what some detractors would lead you to believe.
it's not hard to see how they got there, though. yes, there are boobies; yes, there are tentacles; and yes, it is an inherently sexual work. down to it's core, this thing is about a guy, sugiura ryō, who turns into a giant tentacle monster every time he's horny. the monster itself isn't nearly as sexually charged as that sounds, but, i mean... it is a giant tentacle monster all the same.
scary..!
naturally, not knowing what the fuck is going on, he seeks help and understanding from the only people who will listen: girls on a certain kind of hotline. after arranging a meeting with the hotline's owner, natsumi rumi, she and an entire diner bare witness to the reality of the situation after rumi's quite tame attempts at seduction.
ignoring the newfound attention of the undoubtedly traumatized patrons, the two flee and go out for a night on the town while being stalked by a set of onlookers from the diner. rumi leads the pair into the red light district with the intent of curing ryō via exposure. a noble, yet quite ineffective strategy; when ryō transforms in a theater, rumi casually walks to the other side and sits down to wait it out.
i found rumi's apathy to the film in front of her, juxtaposed with the writhing beast on the other side of the room, quite striking.
here, and in the ensuing scenes, we're introduced to the main difference between these two: maturity. their dynamic is the core of this entire project. while rumi is far more sexually mature than ryō, almost by necessity, she's far more emotionally mature than him as well. initially coming from a place of sexual and romantic attraction, later from just wanting to see another human being overcome the turbulent situation they're in, she sticks with him through every failure a less mature person would find themselves disgusted with and scared off by.
through this blossoming emotional bond, ryō begins to humanize her instead of viewing her as, essentially, a sex object there to comfort him and look pretty. this culminates in a scene taking place on a rainy day. while the two initially seek shelter together under an umbrella, rumi does something strange and steps out into the rain, letting herself be soaked and letting her clothes become wet and translucent in the process. she's sexualizing herself for the sake of arousing ryō, not unlike their initial meeting at the diner. however, this time, instead of transforming on the spot, through a great effort of restraint, he is able to hold himself back.
when they met, rumi was nothing more to him than the porn he consumed and would continue to consume throughout their dates. after those dates, though, rumi became her own person. this is an effective climax in its own right.
this is only about half of the ova, but i'll stop there. in what i've described, it has demonstrated what it's all about, and i can't go spoiling everything, can i? believe me, i have some more thoughts on the other half, but they're non-vital and i'd much rather you go out and discover them for yourself.
there are quite a few takeaways one could have from this thing: musings on puberty, porn addiction, lust and love, etc. i'm not here to tell you how to feel about these things, but i will tell you about the manner in which this ova discusses them. this is a work imbued with compassion that masterfully twists an inherently sexually perverse premise into one of the most profoundly normal romances of all time. this things primary adjective is 'sweet'. in other words...
this isn't porn.

I just wanna say I’m questioning and unclear on my potential status within the LGBTQ community, and this is my mild acquaintance Rat Owen. He’s indecisive. Do whatever, Owen!!! #MaybeRatsSMP
