Jessica Bratton

I was so excited when my dear friend, classmate, and fellow photographer asked me to take her business headshots.  As quickly as I was excited I became very sad. Jessica is graduating in less than 3 weeks with her BFA in Photography from The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham and I am starting to miss her awfully.  Jessica and I met in our Editorial Photography Class over 2 years ago.  We became great friends after I asked to photograph her for my lighting class project.  I just read about clamshell lighting and I needed a model to photograph and Jessica was very excited to assist me.  Since that day I have photographed Jessica numerous of times.  I don't think she can take a bad picture if she tried!

Although I am so excited about her upcoming graduation, I am also sad because I'm not going to see her face at least twice a week.  She has such a sweet spirit and a wonderful personality.  Jessica is very quiet and soft spoken and her work is the opposite.  Her work speaks VOLUMES! I am just in awe of her photography.  She will be a force to be reckoned with in the photography world.  I have never seen a hard working student.  Her conceptual portraits and digital image illustrations are amazing.  She is inspired by the work of Tim Burton.  I am such a huge fan of Jessica's work and it was such an honor that she chose me to photograph her for her next chapter in life.

Visions In My Head

Today was so beautiful and I was more than excited to feel the sunshine on my face.  As I was getting ready for church two images formed in my head.  One of the images was a girl with big hair sitting on a trunk surrounded by the sun.  I texted Pasha and asked if she was available to be my model. You see Pasha has big pretty hair. Just like the hair in my vision.  Next I called my friend Chrystal because she had the trunk and the backyard where the sun peeks through the overgrown green plants.  Pasha was available and Chrystal was allowed me to shoot in her backyard.

I am normally in the studio and hardly ever on location  (Shhhhh..... I don't like being too cold or too hot.  I'm just being honest!) so it felt good to be outside with the weather being perfect.  This was a simple shoot done with natural light, reflector, a shirt from my closet, and my friends backyard and trunk.

Voila! My vision came to life!
