ur photos are amazing! will you help me? which parameters are the most common in a concert photography? :)
Thank you! Much appreciated.I love shooting concerts, both small and big. There really isn’t one perfect recipe for photographing live music. It all depends on the lighting situation of the venue and what kind music you are shooting (what emotions you want to capture).
I have experienced both small venues with inadequate lighting to bigger shows with intense lightshows. I always bring an external flash that I can use off-camera in case the lighting of the venue is dull or not strong enough to let me capture motion on stage. With the external flash you could shoot pretty much in any venue’s lighting situation and also create an effect that you can see on a photograph on my tumblr called: “Adept Live”, where the subject is in focus but the lighting is blurred/making light trails. This is achieved by using a longer exposure time and aiming your flash at the subject; freezing their motion when the flash goes off, but still capturing light. How long of an exposure time is needed are up to how much light there is and how much of the effect you want. Trial and error. I think this creates a lot of movement in the photographs, which more realistically illustrates the energy from the show.
When the venue has sufficient lighting equipment to render an external flash useless, it all about changing the ISO and the aperture and testing. Keep the exposure time as fast as possible to keep the subjects as sharp as possible (if that’s what you desire).
It’s all about trial and error. Snap some shots. Quickly review them, change some setting up if needed and repeat. Capturing live shows to me is about capturing the emotion of the artists. This gives you a lot of freedom in experimenting with different settings and different effects. During a show I usually change up my settings a few times do get the different kinds of images I want. Know your camera and experiment!
