i had the same problem switching over to my new laptop, i uninstalled then reinstalled quicktime then restarted my laptop and it worked fine for me!

ahhh thanks for the tip!  i actually just restarted my computer hoping to fix a different problem (which it didn't but luckily a google search helped with that) and i just tried opening it and now it's doing it with no problem!
