No Fems, No Rice
While no fems, no fats has to do with gender and beauty norms, the trend against femininity in the gay community affects Asian gays two fold. Not only is there a devaluing of non gender-conforming identity and expression, like the hyper masculine transformation of the twink, but racial intersection of this normative misogyny is stressed.
Asian men have a history of being feminized in the United States as a way to disenfranchise them from power afforded white men. The move towards masculine as the positive to the negative feminine works to further marginalize gay Asian men, who are then devalued not even on the grounds of their gender expression, but on the stereotype that molds how their expression is seen. Even if an Asian or Asian American identifies as masculine, they are feminized based on their cultural identity as Asian or Asian American before any real expression can be judged. The gender normativty of no fems, no fats works as racism against the gay Asian identity too.
