New girl likes stealing. In a time when getting caught meant you literally lost a hand and then goes on and say it does her mental wellbeing good.
I like her already.

You Think She (k)Nows?
I sit in a culture, created by men whether born or made, both equal in legitimacy, but not me
I’m not seen by society as the woman I was born to be not yet
Or will it be not ever, Will it ever get better? Even when I get the letter, that tells me who I am,
See, here’s the thing The reason you can’t separate the patriarchal sting, between the men who had a doctors confirmation and the men who had to wait
When I hear about a new group, a new charity, I think great, A place for strong women to recoup, A space for us to create,
Safety and Protection, away from the destruction, that that self same society, enacts on us daily, And then I hear the names. Michael and John, Richard and James and I realise,
That it’s happening again, another group of men speaking maybe not beyond their ken, but with a lack of care,
It’s not fair, That even in these spaces, We just don’t compare, We’re not given our voices,
But maybe I’m being a little unfair, Maybe it’s all well-meaning, These men are the ones who dare, To step up and start leading.
No, The problem isn’t them, Look around these places, Look at all the bearded faces, Hipster glasses, snapbacks, Bow ties bought from store racks,
And think, Why so few women? Could it be the violence, Inherent in the system? We’re so used to targeted hostility, Toxic masculinity, That we feel unwelcome? That we don’t belong in a space, Where so many bear a male face.
And maybe next time, You organise an event, You’ll take a few seconds, And think of the femmes.
