The devil attacks us on an individual level. He knows me and knows my areas of weakness. One of my weaknesses is provocation. I am so very easily provoked. And Satan knows this (along with most people who’ve spent more than a few minutes with me). I recently identified that he uses this to test me, and I fail. A lot. And I hurt others in turn. It is so important to identify specific areas of weakness in your life that Satan may have a foothold on.
We need to better identify when I’m in spiritual warfare so I do not respond in anger. The devil doesn’t care if what I say is technically correct. He only cares that I’ve lashed out and hurt someone. When I can specifically identify when Satan is at play, I am instantly less angry as I know I’m not actually fighting flesh. The person standing in front of me is not my true enemy. I just need to stand firm in the battle with my suit of armour on, being sure not to escalate situations.
For me, the devil attacks through my lack of patience for ideas I perceive to be ridiculous. For others, it will come in other forms, be it sickness, despondence, etc. The point is that once we can identify what our specific weakness is, we can readily defend against his cunning schemes and work to change ourselves through God’s grace and hard work. Keep strong! We are running this race together.
