it’s hard to believe that some of them were students just a year ago. her days in hogwarts felt so far away now with how the war’s progressed; she couldn’t say she’s killed anyone ( thankfully ), although “heavily injured” wasn’t off the table nor was almost dying and getting heavily injured herself. dorcas didn’t know what she expected her life after graduation to be like, but it wasn’t this. ❛ do you think it will ever end ? all this ? ❜

After a couple moments psyching herself up outside the large doorway to the hospital wing Marlene poked her head through, with no sign of Ted she made her way in. He had already expressed concern when her last Quidditch match was brought to an early end after she failed to pull up from a nose dive and she didn’t need him talking to Barbara just because a wrong step led to her falling down the main staircase.
She was further in now and could see Madam Pomfrey tending to a first year, who was throwing up into a bucket, she was about to call out when, “Fuck.” A tap on the shoulder and she was facing Ted, “Hey...”

SHE’D SNUCK DOWN HALLS PLENTY AS A CHILD. the guilt followed her still, though. she could know consciously that the prison of her bedroom walls was no solution, yet still understand that the DANGER at her fingertips was frightening. the rules were in place for a reason.
“ teddy, are you absolutely certain it’s here ? ” her wand glowed softly beside her as they scanned the shelves upon shelves of forbidden titles. she could see filch’s satisfied gaze in her mind, finding them so red-handed. but her curiosity was untameable. could there truly be an answer ? something to explain this thing that lived within her ? then her eyes caught it, the unmistakable danish scrawl she hadn’t read since she’d come to hogwarts. “ teddy ---- is that... is it this ? ”

i’m CACKLING right now oh my gosh!! i’m living for this, let me ramble about these stupid monster lakes.
@inmydrcams it’s actually estimated that the total number of shipwrecks ACROSS the great lakes is in the range of 25,000, but the official (as in, they’re listed in a museum) numbers are 6,000 ships and 30,000 lives lost. this is just a wikipedia page but it gives a good rundown! it’s a weird thought, i know, but these things......aren’t so much /lakes/ as they are little seas?? these lakes are HUNDREDS of feet deep (lake superior is actually lol OVER A THOUSAND FEET DEEP) so i somtimes feel like “lake” is a bad word for them, they’re Monsters.
@kindheartted and that’s not even the biggest one!!! the biggest one is lake superior and it’s actually the largest body of fresh water in the WORLD by surface area, it’s 31,700 sq mi (82,000 km2)
how convenient is it that all of harry’s adventures™ always peaked towards the end of the school year, like imagine if everything already went down in november and then the rest of the book would just be about harry, ron and hermione studying having to worry about exams and shit
