Ted couldn’t believe he was actually doing this. He was really doing this. He was running away from home– With Chara. He was actually leaving the home he’d known all his life, leaving his parents, leaving his brother, leaving them all with his new sister. And he couldn’t be happier. Not that he wouldn’t miss them, or that he didn’t love them– He loved his family. He really did, even if they didn’t love him. But he’d been wanting to run away from them for so long, that to finally have this happen was a dream come true to him.
And it was really all thanks to Chara. She brought out something in him that made him want to keep his chin up. Made him want to put his foot down. Made him have the courage to actually go through with running away. He’d much rather follow her than his brother or father. Unlike those two, Chara seemed to really care about him, and he didn’t want to be separated from her either. Never.
He shot a small smile at her, nodding, “Okay. Yeah! Of course I trust you. We’re gonna do this– Together. We’ll be okay.”
Despite his trust, he was still nervous. Father probably wouldn’t send people out to find them– he probably didn’t care that much, but there was always what if? He could hire the best people to do that. Ted didn’t really care where they went at this point, as long as they were just some place safe.
one thing about knowing she wasn’t going to stay much longer in that home- the being packed up was ignored. no one noticed how her rolling bag was fuller now than when she had first arrived. she’d been grabbing what money she found, first and foremost, though it had mostly coins that were easy to find. more so, however, hidden under clothes were packages of food. she’d been thinking this out- at least somewhat. beyond money and food, and the occasional bottle of water, she hadn’t thought through anything. just have enough to get to her friend, and go.
but she’d have never run if Ted hadn’t agreed to come with her. it had been another bad home, with more bad guardians, but he wouldn’t be moved out like she was. wouldn’t have the chance to try again somewhere else. wouldn’t have the hope of a better life with a better family...
Chara wasn’t going to leave him behind if he wanted to stay with her. she wouldn’t just move on without offering for them to press on together.
not like nay home previously had been good, no adults seemed to care.
But she’d really been banking on finding her other friend, he’d help... without much thought to how he may have scared Teddy, he’d have helped. she trusted him. but he wasn’t just within the treeline, like usual. she wasn’t as sure there’d be no search for them, ad Teddy was. even if the adults of that house wouldn’t look, it was likely the organization that kept moving her home to home would at least but a search. so while she’d asked for trust, she wasn’t sure how to answer that question, not immediately.
the trees were thin here- maybe that’s why he didn’t show up. he liked a lot of trees, and the shadows they cast. she looked around... going into town was a bad idea. people would see lone children and think something was up. they’d look suspicious so instead...
kids were always underestimated, they simply needed to go someplace that could be considered too tough or tiring for them to attempt someplace like... she pointed, the peak seeming not too terribly far as it cut through the skyline. “what about that mountain? people will expect us to go around town, go easy paths. noone will think two kids could hike a mountain by themselves, plus there seems to be plenty of trees on it to we can hide around and make a shelter from. does that sound good?” she still wanted his feedback, though. she knew she could make it, but maybe he didn’t feel as capable. or maybe he had another idea- she wasn’t going to ignore his thoughts. he was smart, after all.
probably smarter than her, really...
