The casino breathed.
And up here, in its highest hush, it almost sounded like a lullaby.
The electric hum in the walls had lowered into a steady, distant purr. The chandeliers no longer glittered — they glowed, their crystals holding onto the last of the light like embers refusing to go dark. The air carried the ghost of perfume, smoke, polished brass, and something older beneath it all — magic settled deep into the bones of the place.
But the lounge…
The lounge was warm.
Held.
Like the building itself knew better than to disturb this corner of the night.
You slept between them like gravity had chosen that exact spot for you.
Your weight rested into Dice’s side, your back curved into the Devil’s chest. Not pinned. Not claimed. Just naturally settled there, like a body choosing the warmest place in winter.
Dice’s arm still stretched along the back of the couch behind you, fingers barely brushing your shoulder. He hadn’t moved in a long time now — not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to be the reason you stirred.
His other hand remained loosely around your wrist, thumb resting over your pulse. He wasn’t counting it.
He just liked feeling it.
The Devil’s presence behind you was solid, a constant heat that never wavered. His hand still rested on your arm, large palm curved to fit you without trapping you. His wing, half-folded, created a soft arch of shadow and warmth around the couch — not to hide you, but to shield you from drafts, from light, from anything that might disturb the peace you’d fallen into.
Your breathing had gone deep and slow.
Every inhale lifted Dice’s shoulder just slightly.
Every exhale warmed the Devil’s sleeve.
Dice watched it happen like it was the most fascinating performance he’d ever seen.
“They do that thing,” he murmured after a while, voice so quiet it barely existed.
The Devil’s eyes shifted toward him. “What thing.”
“That little sigh before they settle all the way,” Dice said. “Like they’re letting the day fall off.”
The Devil listened.
A moment later, you did it — a faint exhale, softer than the last, shoulders loosening even more.
Dice smiled without meaning to. “There.”
The Devil’s thumb made a slow pass over your arm, matching your breathing without thinking. His claws stayed carefully angled away, blunt sides touching fabric instead of edges.
“They don’t drop their guard anywhere else,” he said quietly.
Dice hummed. “They don’t have to hold it here.”
Your fingers twitched again where they rested against Dice’s jacket. This time, your hand slid a little higher, curling loosely over his chest, right above where his heart would be if he were built like a human.
He froze.
The Devil’s tail flicked once in silent amusement.
Dice glanced down at your hand, then at the Devil, like he’d just been caught doing something embarrassing — even though he hadn’t done anything at all.
“…Don’t,” he muttered.
“I didn’t say a word,” the Devil replied.
But his grin softened when he looked at you.
Dice slowly lifted his free hand and, after a second of hesitation, let his fingers rest lightly over yours where it lay against him. Not pressing. Just covering. Like he was making sure you knew he was still there, even in your sleep.
Your breathing stayed steady.
You leaned just a little more into him.
Dice exhaled, shoulders lowering in quiet surrender.
Behind you, the Devil shifted too — barely. His chin dipped a fraction closer to the top of your head, not quite touching, but near enough that his warmth brushed your hair.
The room felt smaller now.
Not cramped.
Just… focused.
Outside the wing’s curve, the lounge stretched into shadow, empty chairs and quiet tables bathed in amber dimness. But inside the space they made around you, the world narrowed to warmth and fabric and breath.
“You’re staring,” the Devil said quietly.
Dice didn’t look away. “Yeah.”
“Why.”
Dice took a moment before answering.
“…Just making sure.”
The Devil didn’t ask what he meant.
He didn’t need to.
Your foot shifted under the blanket, brushing lightly against the Devil’s leg. His tail, still looped around your ankle, adjusted instinctively, the tip giving a soft, slow curl like a sleeping cat.
You made a tiny sound at the contact — not waking, just acknowledging warmth.
Dice’s eyes flicked up at the sound, immediately alert.
The Devil’s hand smoothed once down your arm, reassuring.
You settled again.
The casino let out a low mechanical sigh somewhere in its depths as a system powered down for the night. The sound was distant, like thunder far away.
Up here, nothing changed.
Dice’s thumb traced one slow line over the side of your wrist — not a pattern, just motion. His voice, when he spoke again, had lost its usual polish entirely.
“They picked us.”
The Devil’s gaze stayed on you. “Yes.”
“They could’ve walked away.”
“Yes.”
Dice swallowed faintly. “They didn’t.”
The Devil’s expression softened in a way that never reached the casino floor. “Neither did we.”
Your hand shifted again, fingers tightening just slightly over Dice’s chest, while your other hand remained loosely wrapped at the Devil’s wrist — connected to both without even knowing it.
Dice laughed under his breath. “Look at that. Got us both.”
The Devil’s voice dropped warm and low. “They were never going to choose just one.”
Dice glanced back at him, smirking faintly. “Good thing too. I don’t share well.”
“You do with them.”
Dice didn’t argue.
Your breathing stayed deep, face relaxed in sleep, completely unaware of the quiet conversation happening over you.
Dice leaned his head slightly toward yours, temple almost brushing your hair. The Devil’s wing shifted another inch, sealing the warmth around the three of you like the final fold of a blanket.
No one moved to leave.
No one checked the time.
The casino could run itself for a few more minutes.
Dice’s hand remained over yours. The Devil’s thumb kept its slow, grounding motion. Your body stayed tucked safely between silk and flame.
Three beings who ruled a house built on risk.
Sitting in stillness.
Guarding something gentle.
And not one of them would have traded this moment for all the souls downstairs.
