If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you know that my love for curling has basically exploded since the Olympics. None of my friends are as into curling as I am or remotely interested in it. I invited over 30 people to go curling with me for my birthday and not one person showed up. I know there was a cost involved, it was during Easter weekend, it was late at night and far from city center, and people were more interested in going for dinner or drinks than actually trying out curling... whatever. I ended up with bruises on my knees but I didn’t fall and totally had fun even though I sucked at it. I can’t wait to go back later this month! 🥌🥌🥌 I’m grateful that through Twitter I was able to connect with James who writes the Twine Time blog. If you’re also a figure skating fan like I am, then this analogy would make sense. I would describe James as the Jackie Wong of curling. The way he live tweets multiple curling matches simultaneously (up to 5 at the same time) is enviable. I love live tweeting in general (tv shows, sporting events, conferences I’m attending, sometimes even books I’m reading) but I certainly have a hard time tweeting one curling match let alone 5! He comes up with funny hashtags and his predictions are overall pretty good. I highly recommend you check out his latest blog post. 🥌💙💛🇸🇪 I also want to give a shoutout to Meaghan. She’s a Canadian who loves Team Koe but is also a big fan of Team Edin. I don’t have any friends to fangirl with over curling so it’s nice to be able to talk to her and commiserate over how there’s 146 days left before curling season starts again. Are you a curling fan? I’ve definitely been the stereotypical Olympic fan for about 20 years. For the better part of about a decade John Shuster was the only curler I knew (and if you’re a curling fan, you know that that’s not necessarily a good thing after Sochi). The past couple of years I’ve increasingly become a bigger fan though. It helps that there seems to be more coverage of curling on TV. Whenever I see it on tv, I drop everything and watch it like it’s Mean Girls... I give Matt and Rebecca Hamilton a lot of credit for making me a big fan starting in 2017 (note to self: consider writing a separate entry for them), and Team Shuster’s historic Miracurl on Ice win at the PyeongChang Olympics was an even bigger boost, but by far the biggest influence that has made me fall in love with curling has to be Team Niklas Edin’s performance at the World Championships in Las Vegas. I’m grateful that they have been engaging on social media. I could’ve easily scared them with my normal level of hardcore balls to the walls fangirling and ended up blocked from all their social media platforms, but instead they’ve been nice enough to pick me as one of their winners for the jersey giveaway. I still can’t believe it and look forward to the day I receive it. I’m the kind of loyal and devoted fan who will support you in every way I can so Team Edin, you’ll just have to put up with me for the next 20 years or so 😬 I hope that as time goes on I’ll make more friends in the curling world. I have one friend on FB who tolerates all my Team Edin fangirling only because he thinks Oskar is hot 😂
