The moon’s calling was always too much for him. No matter how hard he strayed, or what dark cavern he had used to try and block out her rays, she still found a way to him. But yet…Toris found himself wanting to see her light with each passing day. 

He had a condition-- Or at least that’s what his father had told the village. The old man had been too scared for his son’s life to tell the truth, and was in good conscious to as well. Honestly, the brunet knew nothing about what it was, or how it worked(besides the obvious transformation during a full moon), but from the moment he had been bitten to his current breath, he had spent every night terrified of what he was to become. 

They had tried nearly everything(contrary to believe, wolfsbane wasn’t really the bane of a wolf) but after he had nearly injured his sister during the last month, the Laurinatis’ gave up. He would have to suffer with this curse, live through it, and make it seem like he was just a normal farmer’s son with a normal farmer’s son’s life. 

Eventually it had struck him that the beast and he were more alike than he had thought. For years he had survived on the only thought that he was nothing like the wolf, but as he grew older…well, it all became rather transparent to him. There was no different between the two of them, except the small fact that Toris was afraid, and the beast was not. 

This, is why he found himself pacing the woods, the dark fur on his back growing more and more as the moon began to rise higher. He could feel his bones shifting, molding out a new skeleton until finally nothing but a large, deep chestnut wolf stood in his steps. 

It was then that he glanced up to the light above, admiring her glow and letting himself bask in it. In a way, he was her lover and she his Madonna. He had never felt closer to her than when he was the beast, and the more he accepted the inevitable, the more he felt himself falling into a sort of trance. 

In short, the wolf had fallen for the moon and there was no going back. 

A howl, deep and piercing rang through the forest, as a light, radiant hand moved through the thick of his fur. The light scent of flowers ran through his nostrils just as light blonde strands of hair overcame his face and muzzle. This couldn’t be….could it? The moon was a beautiful object in the sky, not a woman. But yet the sense of calm and the happiness dwelling inside of his could only mean her presence. 

"Hush now…" Her words came out soft and elegant, her light as vibrant and beautiful as ever. "You’re safe with me." And with that, a kiss had been placed onto the beast’s nose. A sharp pain began to shoot all through his body, the bones changing once more but this time, into the figure of a man. There stood the man, naked and bare before the moon and she stared back like she had all those nights before. 

"H-How…" He asked shakily, and she merely held out her hand for him to take, skin as pale as death. 

"You will not transform so long as I am here. It is what I say and so it shall be." Her eyes met his, a cold violet color that sent a chill down Toris’ spine and from then on he knew he was hopelessly in love with this goddess."Take my hand." His hand reached out without a second though, catching a hold of hers and pulling himself up. He held onto it tightly, feeling the cold of her body.

"Are you?…"

"The moon, yes." She stated, "I’ve heard your cries."

"A-All of them?"

There was only a nod in return.

"…What do I…ah….Do you have a name?" It seemed rather silly to ask, for a celestial being couldn’t possibly have a name, right?

A pause of silence came between them then, her hand slipping into his. “Young wolves are so curious….” Though her face had remained the same elegant stoic, there was a sort of playfulness in her voice. “…Natalia.”

Toris let out a breath of air he hadn’t realized he was holding in, a smile tugging onto his lips. That was a beautiful name for a beautiful woman. “It suits you well,” He commented, a hand boldly reaching out and tucking a luminous strand of hair behind her ear. She did not flinch, nor smiled at the action, but he thought no differently of it. “I…I have so many questions…” 

"I know. They always do," She pressed her lips together, eyes looking down at their intertwined fingers. "I can only appear for a short time each year, and I highly doubt that would be nearly enough time to answer your questions."

His face fell at her words, a sinking feeling began to set into the pit of his stomach. Questions were questions, and well…as much as he would like to know, he knew that was hardly what either one of them wanted to do with the time they had together. So instead of continuing that topic, he shakily wrapped his arms around her, holding her close and taking in the scent of his loved one. 

"You’re so cold…" His voice came softly through the threads of her hair, neither one of their bodies showing any signs of moving. Instead, he felt arms wrap underneath his, holding him close as her head placed itself onto his chest. 

"Always…." Softer than ever, a small sigh passed her lips and onto his neck. Slowly, he pulled her over to one of the trees, resting his back against the bark as he placed her into his lap, continuing the embrace. 

And there they sat all night, warming each other until finally, Toris had fallen asleep and when he awoke there was nothing but a handful of rocks in his lap.

It had turned out to be a routine of his. Every day after work he would head down to the brothel, contemplate whether or not he wanted to go in for five minutes before actually doing so. His mother had always taught him to be proper; to show the world the gentleman he was, and well...if she had caught him in such a place he was certain she'd be rolling over in her grave. 

Not that he wasn't kind to them. No, no, Toris had made sure to treat every lady he encountered with care, and to be fair, he wasn't exactly paying them for their usual service. Sex, while as nice as it was, was the last thing on the Lithuanian's mind. But still he ventured in every other night for a special package offered by a special girl. 

It was sad really. All of his life he had been in love with one girl and never once had she spoken to him. Of course, he hadn't exactly tried to engage conversation with her, but still it would have been nice. They had been neighbors for God sake, and never once had he spoken to her....Well, at least until he had taken up this certain hobby. 

Almost immediately after entering the heavy atmosphere, a few of the girls standing around sent him a smile. They knew exactly what he wanted, and more importantly who. 

His words came out shaky, as they always did when he was nervous but he knew they would understand what he wanted and where to send him. "Is uh...Is Natalia here?" 

A brunette stood, nodded once, and tilted her heads towards the upstairs where he knew several bedrooms laid. "She's upstairs." With that confirmation, he took a deep breath and began his ascension. The closer he got to the familiar door, the more his heart began to race as his palms became a sweaty mess. One would think after coming here for months that he would be used to the nervousness and excitement, but that was the glory of it all. Every time he had these nights it was like starting a relationship completely new. The spark never left, the conversations never became boring, and more importantly, he was happy. She had said never times that she was just as happy, but when someone is paying you a hundred dollars for two hours, they'll say anything you want to hear. 

So, Toris had made it his goal to make her genuinely state she was happy when he was around, and what a goal it was. Another deep breath flew past his lips as his hand reached for the knob, but before he could turn it the door had swung open. There before his eyes stood the one girl capable of making his heart flutter with just a look, and dare he say it was fluttering pretty hard. 

"N-Natalia.." 

"I could hear your breathing through the door." She gestured him in, in which he carefully stepped into the small room. There wasn't much, a bed, a T.V and a bathroom for her use. The decorations were simple enough, but clean. She had always been that way, regardless of her profession, and that was something Toris found endearing. 

"S-Sorry..." There was a ghost of a laugh on the last of his word as he sent the blonde a smile. "You're looking well." 

"As well as I can," Her words came out fast and urgent as she shut the door behind her and turned her eyes towards the brunet. "...Are you?"

His eyes turned downwards then, the embarrassment clean on his face. He knew all too well what she was implying, and as he began to tug on the string of his jacket, a red coloring filled his cheeks. "Actually. I was uhm...well, I wanted to do what we did last time." He flickered his eyes to meet her for a few seconds before turning back down to the ground. The stone features on Natalia's face began to soften slightly as she breathed a sigh.

"..You're the only man I've ever known that hires a prostitute to do this with..." The corners of her lips twitched as she sat down onto the bed, one hand patting the area next to her. "...I don't know whether to find that endearing or idiotic." 

Immediately Toris occupied the area next to her, the coloring on his cheeks only worsening at their close proximity and her words. He watched as her hand reached out and took his into hers, carefully interlocking the fingers together. The smile that spread across his face from the small gesture only widened with the next. As routine, he would follow her movement with one of his own, his free hand reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. Slowly, he watched as her lips inched closer and closer until finally he could feel a warm and wet feeling onto his cheek. 

"The girlfriend experience it is..." 

And once again Toris had fallen into this deep fantasy. He had always dreamed of being able to call Natalia his girlfriend, and even though he was technically paying for it now, he was happy. His body eased some, as a hand reached up and wrapped around the girl's waist, pulling her closer to him. His lips pressed against her forehead and stayed there for more than just a few minutes as he pulled her down onto the bed. Just having her close and in his arms was enough for him, and well worth the money in his opinion. 

As the weight of her head fell onto his chest, he breathed out a warm breath. The smile on his face was clear and merely widened with time. He didn't know just how long they stayed there, just enveloped in each other's arms, but Toris wouldn't change it for anything. As time ticked by, his grip on her body tightened more and more, the fear that this would soon end clear in his head. 

"....Natalia?..." He called out softly, getting a hum in response before the blonde peered her head up to look at him. 

"...Yes, my love?"

"....Are you...are you happy?"

"Of course I am," He had heard this statement several times before, and although she sounded sincere, he didn't quite believe her. 

"...I mean seriously..." The Lithuanian furrowed his brows, pulling apart their bodies only far enough to look into her eyes. "...I've been coming here for a couple months now and...and..." He took in a deep breath, trying to find the courage to continue what he wanted to say. "...I want to make you happy..." 

This had earned him a curious stare for more than just a few minutes as the cogs in Natalia's head began to turn. The fear that she was going to reject this, and it was all for nothing began to set into the brunet as he continued to look at her. But, before he could feel too dejected, a warm pair of lips had met his. Though he had technically paid for her to be his girlfriend, this kiss felt different than all the others; something...wanted. 

It wasn't until the two had found the need to breath did they pull apart. 

"...I am...genuinely...happy around you..." It came out slowly from her, but the moment it had, a fire began to spark inside Toris. His lips immediately rushed to her face as soft, gentle kisses were placed all over her skin. As he slowly worked his way down to her neck, he smiled against the soft flesh before nuzzling his face into it. 

His arms tightened around her, keeping her body snug and close to his as he breathed in a content sigh. Even if she was just saying what he wanted to hear, the feeling after hearing those words was overwhelming him. He let his hands explore her body, feeling the soft cloth of her shirt before resting gently on the small of her back. 

"I'm glad...even if it is all pretend." 

And then something miraculous happened. A smile, warm and unlike anything he'd ever seen spread across the blondes lips. His heart began to flutter as his cheeks grew a darker shade of red. 

"Me too..."

ahhhhh hm...well, there's several things that could have happened between them.  but...what i like most, and keep in mind this is a personal opinion(and headcanon i guess????) is that he lost her trust. if you think about it, when the commonwealth happened most of her land was handed over to poland, which after 300+ years of being with him was kinda like betraying her. i mean, bela probably always felt jealous over poland cause ???? as much as people hate to admit it, they were liet and bela were close in their younger years. I'd even go so far as to say that they were sweethearts, but ah, I'm not too sure about that. basically liet kept spending more and more attention to poland once he got older cause of politics, which in terms made belarus jealous cause she'd had his most if not all of his attention when they were younger.

basically what I think is a) bela got jealous over poland b) they grew apart. c) liet betrayed her
