King Caesar

Spoilers for Godzilla Singular Point.

So GSP took it upon itself to make Jet Jaguar the heroic protagonist giant after decades of neglect.

The series also didn’t bother reintroducing the most overexposed Godzilla foes besides Rodan (who is highly reimagined anyway), and besides a late reference and a post-credits cameo.

Not even counting the ending credits, the series also had pretty much all the other Showa Godzilla monsters showing up in one way or another: Anguirus is here, Manda has Ebirah’s legs, Salunga is a fusion of Gabara and Baragon, Godzilla takes forms similar to Titanosaurus, Varan, and Gorosaurus, and Kumonga has elements of Megalon, Hedorah, and it’s debatable wether the ones with the scythes are a reference to Kamacuras, Gigan, or both.

There is, however, ONE kaiju from a Showa Godzilla movie that was completely, unambiguously absent:

If Singular Point gets a second season (or a new series a la SSSS_Dynazenon), King Caesar could totaly get the Jet Jaguar treatement, ESPECIALLY if the later isn’t coming back.

Here is the great King Caesar!

He can go from quadruped to bipedal, which is why his hind legs look like that

I’ve always loved him because he is a shisa! As a kid my favorite childhood book was takako and the great typhoon, which is about a shisa. I even reread it as a teenager just cause it means so much to me. So yeah I just saw king Caesar and my monkey brain went “SHISA SHISA SHISA”

Anyways it’s always bothered me that mothra and king Caesar never teamed up cause they’re both guardians!! They both protect humans!! WHY HAVENT THEY TEAMED UP!! So in my universe they’re besties cause it just makes sense!

King Shisa and origins

I think makin King Caesar in the automaton interpretation as entirely created by the people of ancient Okinawa or tied to them from the start by some western fanfic writers, while good intentions, might strays too far from the concept of a shisa and projecting a one’s own connotation of national pride.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but shisa are formerly foreign entities in the myths and legends about their origins; their connection to chinse guardian lion statues is acknowledged in the legends about the origin of the tradition.

The legend about their tradition is that one of the Okinawa emissaries came back with a souvenir  figurine from a trip to China, and the small figurine managed to ward off or kill a besieging dragon (details differ.)

Thus it might be more faithful to the concept of Shisa have the royal family finding the buried Shisa on their land and figuring out how to awaken him from researchers drawing upon knowledge collected from other lands. Or even finding and repairing the monstrous monster.

Or King Caesar being a formerly wandering monster or construct who chose to settle in Okinawa
