Changing Fortunes || John and Rory

  As a nurse, Rory often saw a lot more of the patients than the doctors ever did. Enough for him to get attached quite easily. Patients in other wards came and went - here, though, they were long-term. More often than he would like, leaving was by means of dying, not walking out.

  Rory worked on the cancer ward. Not the most glamorous place, but he enjoyed it. And there was one patient in particular he always enjoyed seeing, one who always seemed to keep his chin up.

  "John! How are we today?"
