Roark: Future Mystics with Ivah Wilmot
“Yes, me friend. Me friend. Dem set me free again” – Duppy Conqueror, Bob Marley
We have a deep love for their culture... well, all cultures really.
But Jamaica? Man.
Maybe that love has to do with an appreciation for the same mellow mood and philosophy – that there’s no need to rush or stress. You choose to be happy. You either fight your wave or ride it. We’re not sure if that love and respect is what brought Roark Revival down to Jamaica for their Kingston Deadbeats trip, but we’ve got a pretty good idea it had something to do with it.
Each season, Roark Revival explores a different part of the world, ‘telling stories of their exploits within their product’. Inspired by the culture and climate of these destinations, Roark produces two collections of clothing, luggage, and trinkets (the artifacts of adventure). This time our revivalist brothers at Roark brought back some riddem from Jamaica, with a collection of roots-inspired threads that look like they came right off the back of Lee Scratch Perry.
And that vibe speaks right to our hearts.
You can’t walk into Drift House without hearing the sounds of Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Sly and Robbie, Peter Tosh, Beres Hammond, and others. Reggae is our ‘glue’. It brings everything together. The music sets the tone for our day, gets our minds right, and infuses joy into the service we provide to our friends (the customers).
Roark Revival expresses that love of culture perfectly in the Kingston Deadbeats collection, from their Take the High Road, Rude Boy and Downtown Vinyl tees to their incredibly comfortable button-ups like the Bush Doctor and Tourister.
