the   sound   that   is   silenced   by   light’s   lips   is   anything   but    𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚌    ——    he’s    shocked    at   the    sudden    display   of   affection,    at   the  seemingly   out  -  of  -  nowhere  -  ness   of   it   all.    regardless,    he’s    happy,    happy   at   the   chance   to   be   affectionate   with   his   secret    𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳.    before   this    𝔦𝔫𝔳𝔦𝔰𝔦𝔟𝔩𝔢   𝔰𝔱𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤    was   discovered   between   them,    before   he   discovered   the   person   who   challenged   him   this   most   yet   harbored   a   majority   (   at   least   75%   )   of   his   affections   was   his   greatest   enemy,    his   greatest    challenge,    𝕃𝕀𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝕐𝔸𝔾𝔸𝕄𝕀   ——   he   always    wondered    if   he’d   feel   like   this.    after   time,    detective   work   swamped   him   and   removed   those   desires   from   his   mind.    however,    light   yagami   became   a    welcome    distraction,    a   way   to   bring   this   faint   hope   back   to   life,    to   bring   his   heart   back   from   a   frozen    𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫    to   the   very   beginnings   of   a   warm   and   long  -  due    𝓈𝓅𝓇𝒾𝓃𝑔.    “    what   was   that   for,    light  -  kun?    ”

there’s   still   something    𝔬𝔡𝔡    about   it,    being   out   in   public   like   this    ——    but   that    𝚍𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛    is   gone   now.    there   is   no   more   kira,    he’s   dead.    𝚔𝚒𝚛𝚊   𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚜   𝚒𝚗   𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚝   𝚘𝚏   𝚑𝚒𝚖,    𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐   𝚑𝚒𝚜   𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚍,    𝚍𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐   𝚊   𝚖𝚞𝚐   𝚘𝚏   𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔   𝚌𝚘𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚎.    and   yet,    there   is   no    𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭    in   their   touch,    rather,    an   affection,    one   they’d   spoken   of   so    𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘺    before   his    𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙    was   put   out   in   mere   moments,    taken   from   him   at   the   touch   of   that    𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝   𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞.    but   that   was   past   them   now.    light   and   ryuzaki,    kira   and   L,    𝚖𝚊𝚌𝚋𝚎𝚝𝚑   𝚊𝚗𝚍   𝚖𝚊𝚌𝚍𝚞𝚏𝚏   𝚑𝚊𝚍   𝚛𝚎𝚞𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚍   𝚘𝚗𝚌𝚎   𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎.    

hands   still   delicate   in   death   offer   the   other’s   a   gentle   squeeze   before   lips   close   around   straw    ——    𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙙   𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚.    𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙙   𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙬.    he   had   never   considered   it   when   he   was   still   alive.    they   were   so   sweet,    he   didn’t   even   need   to   add   the    𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀    amounts   of   sugar   that    𝔩𝔦𝔳𝔦𝔫𝔤    tongue   craved.    “    i   like   this.    ”    sunken   eyes   flicker   from   the   lid   of   his   drink   to   light’s    ——    do   they   grow   brighter   at   the   sight   of   his   beloved?    “    do   you   like   yours?    ”    eyebrows   raise   as   drink   is   set   down    ——    yet   space   is   occupied   by   a   particularly    𝕥𝕖𝕞𝕡𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘    slice   of   strawberry   cake.

it   wasn’t   often   that   total   exhaustion   washed   over    𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐧   𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬,    that   hunched   shoulders    𝔯𝔢𝔩𝔞𝔵𝔢𝔡   and   that   ever  -  so  -  desired    𝕤𝕝𝕖𝕖𝕡    washed   over   him.    then   again,    rarely   did   he   get   that   chance.    he   was   always   busy.    mind   always   racing.    SOLVING   A   CASE   WAS   THE   MOST  IMPORTANT   THING   NOW.   THE   HOURS   SPENT   SLEEPING   COULD   BE   USED   TO   SOLVE   THIS   THING.    THE   WORLD   WAS   DEPENDING   ON   HIM.    but   he   could   feel   the   fatigue   creeping,    𝕔𝕝𝕚𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕟𝕘    up   the   leg   of   his   pants   and   spreading   over   his   body.    but   there’s   work   to   do.    he   can’t   sleep   now.  .  .    but   then   spoon   falls   from   his   fingers,    clanging    𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨    thin   frame   of   the   boy,    reminds   him   that   he’s   human.    humans   need   sleep.    but   now   wasn’t   the   time.  .  .    he   was   busy.  .  .    

ryuzaki   glances   to   the   right.    there   was   light  -  kun,    diligently   typing   away   on   a   laptop,    the    𝚎𝚙𝚒𝚝𝚘𝚖𝚎    of   hard   work    ——    well,    at   least   as   hard   as   as   he   could   in   these   circumstances.    “    light  -  kun,    come   with   me   please.    ”    he   stands,    hands   immediately   move   to   his   pockets,    body   moves   slowly   as   the   pair   move.    he    leads   him   a   few   rooms   away,    practically    𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗹𝘀    onto   the   couch.    “    sorry   to   lead   you   away   like   this.    ”    L   murmurs,    turning   his   head   towards   the   other   as   soon   as   both   men   are   on   the   couch.    “    but   i   just    ——    really    needed   to   do   this.    ”    he   nearly    𝖜𝖍𝖎𝖘𝖕𝖊𝖗𝖘,    head   slowly   lowering   onto   light’s   lap,    eyes   slowly   shut.    “    we   can   leave   in.  .  .    ”    he   pauses,    attempting   to   see   how    𝕝𝕠𝕟𝕘    he   can   sleep   for,    but   before   he   even   speaks,    he’s   already   drifted   off.

it   wasn’t   often   that   sleep   captured   lawliet’s   heavy   eyes,    that   it   completely   overtook   his   body.    instead   of   sleeping,    he   often   brought   a   small   laptop   with,    worked    late    into   the   night   while   light  -  kun   slept.    HOW   MANY   TIMES   HAD   HE   WOKEN   UP   BEFORE   YOU   SLEPT,    BEFORE   YOUR   BODY   SUCCUMBED   TO   EXHAUSTION?    HAS   LIGHT   EVER   SEEN   YOU   IN   A   STATE   OF   VULNERABILITY   SUCH   AS   THIS?    has    anyone?    have    you?    it’s   now,    sitting   on   his   chair   moments   after   entering   their   bedroom   where   the   urge   hits   him.    heavy   eyes   begin   to   flutter,    sleep   will   overtake   him   at   any   moment.    he   waits   until   the   other   man   is   in   bed    ——    𝐢𝐬   𝐢𝐭   𝐨𝐮𝐭   𝐨𝐟   𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞   𝐲𝐨𝐮   𝐝𝐨   𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬?    do    you   feel    𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖌𝖗𝖎𝖓    at   the   thought   of   having   your    𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐍𝐄𝐑,    the   one   who   knows   you   best,    doing   something   so    𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯    like   sleeping?    ——    before   body   𝚜𝚞𝚌𝚌𝚞𝚖𝚋𝚜,    crawling   on   hands   and   knees   under   blankets   before   bodies   are   together   once   more.    hand   gingerly   rests   across   the   other   man’s   torso,    head   on   his   shoulder.    perhaps   there   should   be   no    𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲    in   this,    after   all.

cue   the    ghastliest    grimace   he   can   conjure   up    ——    he   didn’t   hang   around   light  -  kun   as   much   these   days,    preferring   to   stay   with   the   task   force   as   a   whole   that   was   now    𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠    into   despair   with    𝔨𝔦𝔯𝔞    as   their   leader,    or   with   the   spk,    all   the   way   in   america,    checking   in   on   near,    watching   him   learn   how   to   take   on   the   new   role   that   had   been    𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕔𝕖𝕕    upon   him,    watching   a   relationship   that   began    𝚜𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚝    turn   even   more    𝖘𝖔𝖚𝖗,    or   with    mello,    who   also   made   an   attempt   to   solve   the   mystery   of   kira   in   a   more.  .  .    𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥    way   through   members   of   the    𝘮𝘢𝘧𝘪𝘢.    rarely   did   he   check   on   light,    the   person   he’d   given   his    heart    to,    the   person   who   knew   him   best.    perhaps   it   was   because   it    𝖍𝖚𝖗𝖙    to   see   him   now,    made   him   wonder   if   everything   was   an    act,    made   him   think   back   and   ponder   on   this   astronomical    𝙵𝙰𝙸𝙻𝚄𝚁𝙴.    “    i’m   a    ghost,    light  -  kun.    ”    even   after   death,    his   dry   sense   of    humor    remained.    maybe   that   was   a   good   thing.    “    and   i   don’t    𝔨𝔦𝔩𝔩    people,    like   you,    and   i   don’t   expect   the   earth   to   be    𝚐𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚏𝚞𝚕    to   me   for   it.    only    𝐌 𝐎 𝐍 𝐒 𝐓 𝐄 𝐑 𝐒    do   that.    ”

boy   turns   into   a   different    𝖈𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖙𝖚𝖗𝖊    behind   closed   doors    ——    the   mask   the   world   sees   is    𝐋,    𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭   𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞   𝐢𝐧   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.    completely   unknown,    an   enigma,    THE   WORLD’S   GREATEST   DETECTIVE   WAS   HIMSELF   A   MYSTERY.    however,    in   the   dark   of   the   night,    where   masks   are   torn   away,    disregarded,    he’s   ryuzaki,    chained   to   a    𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚋𝚒𝚍𝚍𝚎𝚗   𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚛,    doing   things   unknown   to   the    public   eye,    acting   like   teenagers   who   didn’t   know   what   they   were   doing   but   just   wanted   to   follow   their   hearts.    what   a   strange   thing   it   was   to   L,    𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜   𝙝𝙞𝙨   𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩.    it   was   deemed   a    childish    thing   at   the   age   of   thirteen,    when   he   decided   that    NO   SUCH   FEELINGS   WOULD   PENETRATE   HIS   HEART   AND   THAT   IT   LIKELY   WOULDN’T   HAPPEN   EVEN   IF   HE   WANTED   IT   TO.    this,    however,    was   accidental.    accidental,    yet    𝔴𝔢𝔩𝔠𝔬𝔪𝔢.    “    it’s   like   you   read   my   mind,    light  -  kun.    ”    smile   spreads    wide    across   his   face,    body   moves   to   close   the   gap.    “    i’ve   been   waiting   for   this    all    day.    ”    hand   gently   cradles   the   others   face,    forehead   rests   against   the   others.    I’M   NOT   SURE   IF   HEAVEN   EXISTS,    BUT   THIS   SEEMS   LIKE   A   PRETTY   GOOD   START.

and   so   the   universe   continues   its    cruel    joke   on   l   lawliet   and   light   yagami.    𝐭𝐨𝐨   𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧    boy   was   stripped   from   the   world,    stripped   from   the   life   he’d   finally   come   to   enjoy,    stripped   from   the   case   he’d   given   his   life   for.  .  .    only   to   find   out   he   was    𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵    the   whole   time.    light,    the   person   he’d   grown    𝕔𝕝𝕠𝕤𝕖𝕤𝕥    to   on   this    𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚑𝚕𝚢   𝚜𝚙𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎,    was    𝖐𝖎𝖗𝖆,    his    worst   enemy.    and,    to   add   to   his   already    unfortunate    post  -  death   circumstance,    he    𝔥𝔞𝔲𝔫𝔱𝔢𝔡    the   earth,    walked   the   halls   of   the   building   once   dedicated   to   the   task   force,    watching   his   successors   attempt   to   solve   the   case   like   he   once   did   before   he   was   taken   too    quickly.    he’d   be   bitter    over   it   until   the   end,    the   sting   of    death    a   constant   reminder   of   his    𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞.    standing   in   front   of   the   person   who   led   to   his    demise    seemed   like   a   swift   kick   to   the   face    ——    uncomfortable   for   both   of   the   unlucky   participants.    “    a    shinigami    follows   your   every   move,    light  -  kun.    is   this    really    so   impossible?    ”
