As a pro-sub person I have to give my two cents in this. I for one think the Japanese version is very much the superior one, not only does the English dub mistranslate and but it also has voice actors mispronounce their names all the time. They also gave Yoite a very masculine actor which was the wrong direction to go. He was supposed to sound fragile and weak. Miharu should be more masculine of the two voices. Saiga Mitsuki (Yoite’s VA) did one of her best roles as him.

Yeah the name mispronouncing always bugged me a bit. The thing is, I was in middle school when I first watched it (like, 8 years ago) and I wasn’t a fan of reading the subs, so I never watched it subbed, and when I loved the show, I was already attached to the English voice actors. I definitely like Joel McDonald as Yoite because of the way his voice catches, but the Saiga Mitsuki does do a better job and does fit Yoite’s character better, for sure. All the parts, especially in episode one, that I thought were phrased awkwardly and were mildly embarrassing were all mistranslated, too, which makes so much more sense.

So yeah, I totally agree that the sub is much better (even if I’m not quite used to Yukimi’s deep voice or Hanabusa’s voice) and all of the voice actors are more in character and fit the animation better. I still like the dub because it was what originally got me into the story, though.

Sorry this is so long and I’m sorry if you didn’t actually want me to respond to this. I’m just really passionate about Nabari no Ou and I’m pretty sure my family is sick of me ranting about it all the time.

Not to mention it makes the writer seem like a weaboo. Of course one respects the original language of the series but it’s the same as adding any other language in a fic without a deeper meaning. Sometimes it can work but most of the time just… NO.

ugh, really tho! 90% of the time, it's cuz it's JAPANESE and therefore, anything JAPANESE is cooler and adding in random JAPANESE makes your fic cooler and more in touch with the anime when really, it's an annoying mess and I am forced to keep scrolling for translations or have google translate open :/ geez people
