okay I will warn that this gets really sad really quickly. Warning for suicide, murder, and general cult business
Leo Fry, the host of the King in Yellow is challenged by a cultist who- along with the elders- stage a convoluted assassination with the cover that the cultist is challenging him for the title of host. It works. Kit takes his own life with grief. Nobody in the room- Kit, Leo, the challenger, and two council members- is left alive.
this is of course, brought to the attention of Adam. Being the younger brother he is… basically in line to becoming host. He takes charge of the investigation, hiring Charlie Dowd to solve the deaths. [TMITM Arkham, Case III: Dowd]
After that, Adam and Charlie split ways and Adam takes on the mantle of host for the King in Yellow, just like all his dreams come true. But the ritual is just around the corner. Adam is thrown face first into planning and meeting with other cults and trying to keep his own on top. He learns of an artifact in Egypt that many cults are squabbling for. It would make whichever god comes through powerful. Adam turns to his last resort, his ex-lover Charlie, to retrieve the artifact in Egypt. Charlie does it, but only so he can keep it away from every cult involved. Including Adam.
in the mean time, Grace is growing more and more resentful. Leo and Kit are dead, Adam is acting like a damn king already and completely ignoring her council. He’s taken on a new name: The Yellow Stag. He’s not only the host for the King, but now a killer and an ambassador and a god damn prophet. He made himself indispensable to the cult.
The ritual goes just as well as we know. The King is fractured, Shub fucking dies, and Adam and Grace (among with others) are taken to the dreamlands. There, Grace is completely stripped of her identity and becomes another nameless faceless dancer. [TMITM Dreamlands, Year Two]
Adam becomes the King’s prophet, his preacher, the Yellow Stag. He is sent to kill targets in the mortal world and preach his word to the rest of Carcosa. But throughout EVERYTHING he always has that memory of Charlie Dowd asking him to leave. And damn does that fuck with him. Far too late, he understands Leo and Grace.
The King in Yellow catches on to his hesitation, and it is dealt with accordingly. [TMITM Dreamlands, Year Eight]
malevolent oc alert!! this is ✨the Leerie four✨ from The Man in the Mirror: Ascension
Oookayyy let’s get started
The Leerie four refers to a group of friends within the King in Yellow’s underground cult in Leerie. The first two are cultist brothers, Leo and Adam Fry. The other two are dancers, Grace and Kit.
Leo Fry is the older brother. His grandfather is the head of the council, making the Fry family incredibly important within the cult. From very young, he was raised to be the Host of the King in Yellow. By birthright, he is the vessel prepared for the King after the ritual to bring him into this world. As he grew older he resented the cult, making a lot of people hate him. There were several other cultists who challenged his claim to be the Host.
Kit, a dancer, is Leo’s personal dancer, but also best friend. The pair of them are inseparable. The role of dancer in Leerie is an incredibly taxing one. They are born and raised being stripped of a family name, forced into silence and starved to achieve that eerie thinness of a real dancer from Carcosa. Kit believes that he is worthless without Leo, and would defend Leo with his dying breath.
Grace is the next dancer. She underwent the same treatment that Kit did, but instead of folding, she got angry. Grace is also trans. And because I Can Leerie isn’t like the rest of the 1934 world and doesn’t really give a shit if you’re queer. She was taken in by the Fry family and became close friends with Adam. The four split into their groups of two when they grew up, but if they were still close, Grace and Leo would have single-handedly tried to dismantle the cult.
and last but not least, Adam Fry. He’s the younger brother, burning with devotion for his King. He stands in the shadow of his brother, and is appalled at Leo’s disdain for the cult. Being the host is, of course, the highest honor. Adam would kill for his cult. He has killed for his cult. He will do it again. As they grow older, the main reason between the split in their group is because of Kit and Adam. They both want to dictate what happens to Leo, causing far too many fights.
