New Job: Gator Golf Attendant and Handler Chapter 4 Preview
You and Monty exit the raceway to find the nearest vending machine. Thankfully, Sam had been right when he said it was right outside the raceway. Roxy’s image is proudly displayed, rocking out on the keytar. The entire machine is filled with grape-flavored Fizzy Faz.
“Go ahead and take a seat. I’ll grab the drink.” Monty gently leads you towards the bench.
“You sure?” You ask, quirking a brow at him.
You were curious to see how the gator was going to pay for the drink.
“I can get a drink for a lil’ lady. I’m not that incompetent.” Monty snorts.
He’s seen kids use these all the time. How hard could it be? Monty stares at the machine, towering over it. Usually, kids would hold their passes up to the machine then press a button for a can to fall to the bottom of it. He didn’t have a pass. But he’s a Glamrock. Maybe he could… Monty presses a claw to one of the buttons, a small spark shooting out towards the machine. It rumbles to life as a can falls out. Monty feels pride surge through his circuits. He carefully grabs the can with his thumb and forefinger, afraid of crushing the can with his strength.
You watch as Monty gingerly grabs the Fizzy Faz can from the vending machine. He steps carefully towards you, like you might bolt if he approaches too quickly. You can’t help but feel slightly endeared towards the gator. You might even call him cu-
“Here.” Monty holds the drink towards you.
You give him a grateful smile, taking the can from his outstretched hand. You pull the tab and take a sip. Cold artificial grape flavor coats your tongue. You pull a face at the taste.
“Bit on the sugary side, but it’ll do.” You sigh, taking another sip.
How kids could drink this stuff was beyond you. Monty scans you and finds your heart rate returning to a normal pace. He waits for you to finish your drink before speaking.
“Feelin’ better?” He wonders, leaning down towards you.
“Much.” You breathe out a sigh, “I didn’t realize how intense a go-cart race could be.”
“Yeah, Roxy can get REAL competitive when it comes to Sam. Ever since he was assigned as her attendant, they’ve pretty much had a race every week.” Monty explains. “It’s why they get along so well.”
“I could tell.” You smirk, recalling how Sam and Roxy interacted with one another.
You swirl your drink in the can, watching the few guests that have started to wander the Plex. A large party was entering the raceway. They were openly staring at you- well, more at Monty. He notices, and stands to block you from their view.
“Don’t mind ‘em. They can stare at my backside all they want.” Monty huffs.
You snort at that. Monty’s tail starts to sway again. He almost got you to laugh that time.
“I don’t think the manager would be happy to hear you say that.” You say into your drink, taking another sip.
“Marsh-mallow can kiss my a-” Monty starts.
“Language!” You hiss, smiling, “Oh my god, Monty! There are children here!”
Monty can’t help but smirk. There are programs and protocols on the Glamrocks’ to make them “child safe”, like a filter for inappropriate language. But because no one liked working on Monty, his protocol updates had gone to the wayside.
“It’s fine. There aren’t any kids around yet.” He excuses.
You roll your eyes at Monty.
“I’m feeling a little better now. Thank you, Monty.” You smile at him, before rising to your feet, “Where should we go next?”
Monty hums in thought, when a message pops up on his HUD. Maintenance has just finished cleaning his room. Along with a warning not to do it again. Monty rolls his optics, but grins.
“Ever been inside a Glamrocks’ green room?” Monty asks.
The obvious answer is you haven’t. You shake your head at Monty.
“Then let’s get goin’!” Monty beams with pride.
