How to kiteboard?

Getting Started consists of 3 basic steps:

Learn to fly a trainer kite - A Trainer Kite is designed to do just what the name implies - train you to kitesurf. Kite flying is 80% of learning to kiteboard. Every new kite surfer I have talked to confirms this- a little patience at the start pays dividends in the future. Practice, practice, practice. You need to develop muscle memory in your kite flying skills so that your reactions on the water become instinctual. If you spend 4-10 hours flying a trainer prior to your kitesurfing lesson, you will progress much further during your lesson. Check out our trainer kite section that will give you tips to make full use of your trainer kite prior to your lesson and after your lesson. If you buy a trainer that is over 3 meters in size, you will also have your first basic Snow/Land kiteboarding kite. Trainer kites available for purchase. Take a Kitesurfing Lesson - This is an absolute must!!! Kitesurfing is very similar to hang-gliding or scuba diving. With proper instruction it can be safely learned and is an incredible adrenaline sport. Without getting proper instruction or trying to figure kiteboarding out on your own, it can be fatal to you and others and our beach access. Look at these instances of un-safe kiting and ask yourself -"Do I want to be the crash test dummy?" We have a complete kiteboarding school ready to make your step into kiteboarding successful and fun. Or learn to snow-kite or Land board (also known as KGB, kite ground boarding). It's much easier, takes one tenth of the time to learn, and the cost is dramatically lower than learning on the water. Kiteboarding Lessons & Rentals

Captain Kirk's is a certified Ocean Rodeo Learn to Ride center, stationed in Los Angeles and La Ventana, Mexico. All of our instructors are either IKO or PASA certifed. In Los Angeles, all kiteboard rentals and lessons must COME TO THE SHOP prior to the 1st rental or lesson. RESERVATIONS are required for lessons, & are very strongly recommended for board rentals. In Mexico, all rentals and lessons are located right at Capt. Kirk's own resort beach.
