Kitt Peak Moonrise The full moon rises behind the Kitt Peak National Observatory Mayall 4-m Telescope. This is a single image, not a composite, photographed on 17 March 2022 at a distance of nearly 10 miles (16 km). The moonrise was photographed using a Pentax K-3ii DSLR, smc P-DA* 300mm F4 ED IF SDM lens, and HD Pentax-DA AF Rear Converter 1.4x AW teleconverter, at ISO 100, 1/10 s, f/8. Planning for the alignment was conducted using The Photographer's Ephemeris, and editing was performed in Lightroom Classic.
M106 - Spiral Galaxy
Not all of the best photo's are taken by Hubble, this new image of M106 was taken using a Nicholas U. Mayall 4-m telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory.
The galaxy is 20 million light years away in the constellation of Canes Venatici, and is thought to be around the same size as the Andromeda Galaxy.
