Aww, I'm a bit sad you didn't like the part with the play. I agree that it was played for laughs and that Loki including his Jotun heritage in it was kind of ooc, but I also saw it as a way of Loki finally being able to tell his own story and come to terms with his heritage? And I kept thinking how healing it must have been for Loki to see the Asgardians' positive reactions, how moved they were, how they didn't think of him as a monster, etc. so yeah, idk, I really liked that scene
//Oh I loved the rest of it, for sure! I loved the fact that a woman grabbed onto Thor and started sobbing about it, lol, I loved that Loki was permitted a chance to see the narrative about him changing in Asgard.
At the same time it was difficult to see thatA) he had to construct that new narrative himself, and no one else was there to advocate the change, andB) the audience is meant to see the scene as melodramatic, ridiculous and self-absorbed, instead of a much-needed respite from being hated and mistrusted by his own people. andC) the “little blue baby” part in particular was kinda a tasteless joke when the whole Jotun heritage thing is an actual metaphor for being a minority/person of color from a culture that’s Othered. I just felt like Waititi was trying too hard to make what was like, Shakespearean and weighty before into something silly and funny and it was a jarring shift toward the content. It just dampered it for me, but I’m still glad for Lokes for sure!
