Capability 'Kitty' Weeks is a reporter for the local paper Ladies Page but longs to be a more mainstream investigative reporter. She gets her chance when a routine boring High Society Picnic she is covering has a murdered guest. What is Kitty to do but get involved? The main character is passing for white. The main character isn't black but blacks weren't the only ones who passed. Chapter 9 or 10 we find out abit more about the main character's ethnicity. Society sees her as white as she is able to move without question in the upper echelons of New York High Society circa 1915. That would really only be possible for a white woman during that time period. Silly mystery, cute story. This takes place before the US joins World War I and kinda has a Downton Abbey-esque feel.
