Blessed William Richardson, Kiveton Park – Catholic Church

I didn’t know this Catholic church existed until I had a walk through Kiveton Park from the Crossroads garage to Wales.  Its surprising what we drive past and don’t take notice of.  Can anybody tell me anything about this church?

Kiveton Bridge a really handy railway station if you live in walking distance of it, I don’t think there is any official car parking for it.  Only 15 minutes into Sheffield.  I used to use Kiveton Park Station which is closer to Anston and has car parking, but the car parking is limited.  They decided to turn about 5 spaces into disabled spaces, that are rarely used.  Which means those who work…

Kiveton Park Colliery offices.

Kiveton Park Colliery offices.

The Kiveton Park colliery offices were originally built as a school in 1869 and then turned into the colliery offices.  They are now used to run a redevelopment charity in Kiveton.   There were pit baths next to the offices, that were going to be turned into a cinema but this project was abandoned and the baths demolished.

On walking through Kiveton the other day I was shocked to see the Forge Public house was no longer open.  I understand it was sold in an auction a few years ago and shut and reopened on a number of occasions.  April 2019 the signs were taken down and the area fenced off.  I have always thought it looked like there was a cinema here (not sure why) and was shocked to find that the Regal cinema once…

Saxon Hotel Public House at Kiveton

The Saxon Pub was built in the 1950s.  If you are from Kiveton can you tell me of any pubs or working men’s clubs that remain?.  I know of the Station Hotel at Kiveton Park station and the Duke of Leeds at Wales.  But so many of the pubs and working men’s clubs have disappeared in Kiveton, which was a very working-class area at one bit.  There used to be a pit and two steelworks.   Kiveton Wire…

Kiveton Norwood tunnel to Staveley canal

From Norwood tunnel to Staveley most of the Chesterfield canal disappears.  You will find old parts of the canal that will never be reused, as the canal needs to be diverted around the housing estate at Killamarsh that was built over it.   Part of the diversion will be through Rother Valley park using the River Rother.  Part of the Norwood tunnel will be re-opened and then there will be a…
