he shouldn’t feel this way. he knows he shouldn’t. dark, bitter, like something thick and too heavy on his tongue. it’s not right, and if he knew how to rid himself of it, he’d do it in a heartbeat. as it stands, he’s sat on the edge of her sofa with a cigarette between his thumb and index finger, leaning forward with his elbows on his thighs and his legs spread. the ash tray sits on the sofa next to him, and as he takes another drag, he wonders what it would be like to just tap it onto the floor. to just coat everything in a thick layer of what he feels in his lungs. the smile on his face is slight, and it’s nowhere near genuine.
