As promised, Gokuraku asked Ichi permission to punch the Majik before he went to punch the Majik
With Ichi down and Desscaras unavailable, guess that leaves you in charge now, huh Kumugi?
Good luck!!!!!
in other news, since Ichi is unconscious, i do wonder if Kumugi will be the one to inadvertently acquire Kizashi, assuming they get taken out here
But also, Ichi is the only Witch who actually took part in their trial, so maybe they'll automatically go to him anyway, even if he's unconscious. Hmmm
But tbh it'd be reaaaaaaallllyyyyyyy funny if Kizashi accidentally ended up acquired by Kumugi, bc Kumugi is (as far as we've seen so far) the weakest of team Desscaras. Kizashi would be SO upset that a weakling acquired them. And they wouldn't even be with Uroro
Plus, their super exuberant personality contrasting with her own, much more mild one would be interesting to see
Although... There's always the possibility that Kizashi could sense there's more to Kumugi than meets the eye. so if they accept her acquiring them with little issue, without any obvious reasons why - especially after they just threw the world's biggest hissy fit regarding humans and weakness - that could also be really interesting. What do they know what the audience doesn't? That kinda situation.
Hmmmmmm
Also.
Kizashi's main body has 133 lives now
203 - 70 = 133. There's only 6 clones. There's a 7th one hidden somewhere
Silly suggestion. The group manages to defeat all the Kizashi bodies, but they don't realize there's one left
Kumugi gets spooked by the hidden clone and explodes it, like she did the lightbulb as a kid, killing all 10 lives instantly, and that ends up causing her to acquire them
Kizashi is happy bc explosions
Also.... I don't think i ever noticed, but the sparkles when Kumugi tries the light spell earlier were white, but as she tries to do the spell in front of Spica, they slowly turn black...
Hmmmmm
Anyway good chapter i enjoyed it a lot, can't wait to see Gokuraku punch the octopus and Kumugi deliver a baby while driving (probably)
peak comedy
losing chess to a dog yada yada but I genuinely think Kizashi was in love with Chrono. I'm 95% certain it is not explicit because Jump, but 5% that it was deliberate.
for Kizashi love is being killed by somebody strong. it is playing together, showing cool things, having fun.
here is the confession. it is what romantic love is for Kizashi.
and I think Chrono is sad here not only because he is about to fight his friend. but also because he knows what it is, he finally understands that Kizashi is in love with him, and although he cares deeply for Kizashi, he does not reciprocate those feelings and never will.
their love is too different
74th Hunt: Let's Go Home
I thought this page was really poignant. Kizashi turned introspective after Chrono was destroyed, and now all they want is time. I'm glad they were captured willingly, and I like the turn in perspective on power and strength, I hope Kizashi can be useful in future missions and have a good time in Desscaras' magic circle!
Also, good job, Ichi! He's very thoughtful about the people he cares about. He made sure that everyone on the hover board was fine before going to Desscaras to see if she needs help. I also appreciated the status updates on everybody at the end. What a great arc! This was the longest in Ichi yet, I thought it was well-orchestrated, some great characters were introduced, and I can't wait to see what's in store next!
Mon ami a fait ce meme suite au récent chapitre d'Ichi the Witch. C'est tellement ça !
My friend made a meme after the recent chapter of Ichi the Witch. And yeah, it's accurate !
now that we have the name of whm's emo band servant unit, i wanna talk abt some symbolism and nomenclature and design choices. (bear with me, it's a bit disjointed but i don't feel like making separate posts)
so! world hater majik has an emo band, a group of underlings that are called the "seven stars":
we've met two of them, kizashi and hitsugi.
we can guess that hitsugi is one of them based on the sea-monster design of his true form (a leocampus to match kizashi's octopus/kraken) and that they both seem to have greek letter-named spells (attacks? i think calling them spells might just make more sense).
now, apparently the α, β, γ, etc. - which is a part of bayer designation - is exclusive to the ursa major stars in japanese. based on that, it stands to reason that whm's seven stars correspond to the seven stars of ursa major.
i want to connect this with two previously established things:
firstly, desscaras comes from polaris mountain.
polaris is another name for the north star, and dubhe (alpha ursae majoris - hitsugi, if we're correct) and merak (beta ursae majoris) are stars within the ursa major that point towards it at all times.
(whether this is foreshadowing that hitsugi and whoever is the merak star were directly involved with what happened to polaris, or that dess will acquire them, i can't say, but it's certainly something worth taking note of.)
secondly, while the seven stars seem to have sea creature themed designs - monstrous forms corresponding to various mythological beings of the waters, whm is just a guy with a wave motif and a fluffy hat and scarf.
i've written before about whm's shepherd/sheep design elements and how they tie to ichi's whole hunter theme (as well as the sacrifice theme, having two lambs to the slaughter is in.sane. still)
from the start i was stumped about the waves. what's the point of the waves? decorative? that's not how visual story-telling works! but with the seven stars' sea monster theme, it makes a lot more sense.
anyways, with all of that brought to the foreground, to get to the point: i've been making for a while now jokes about how whm seems like the world's worst suited person to be anyone's boss. they say as much themselves:
all of this nonsense about majiks and humans, they don't care about any of it! they exist to destroy the whole world! and i realized that this indifference, this distance, is also reflected in their design: they're a guy with a wave on their tabard. they don't actually have any stake in the game, not the way the others do.
but what about the fluff? of course, the sheep motif is strong enough on its own, imo. but what if it's also doing double duty? say, as sea foam?
another thing i've been noticing with itw, is a variety of fairytale motifs strewn around: ichi the hunter, desscaras the witch, gokraku the prince, etc. it's a vague theme that i see at times but don't really give much importance to.
here however, i want to push another one: world hater majik, the little mermaid: wanted to be human, failed, turned into sea foam.
