performance against Holland, team manager Franz Beckenbauer rather meanly said in his ARD interview that Klinsmann had played "high above his standards", it struck a chord with the masses" -that's from an article about how Mario Gomez gets booed at German international matches, and how some players simply can't win, while others can't lose, where the audience is concerned, "Sünden & Böcke", #155, oct. 2014). That said, Klinsmann was not very lucky at Bayern (neither as player, nor as coach).
I see what you mean about some players not being able to win, I know that Gomez has really struggled to win over the German fans - and a lot of that might have to do with confidence, if you can’t feel your fans behind you then that gets to you mentally. I mean look at him lately, he’s been very good for Fiorentina and looks vibrant in his play!
Critics and fans will always have a swaying opinion, and I’m sure Klinsmann doesn’t take too much on board, especially in his age when he is more than used to being under scrutiny. Sometimes your Mr.Popular and then, (forgive the word play) you’re Mr.Flopular.
There will be highs and lows to a person’s career, that’s true for every profession.
As I say, I don’t dislike Klinsmann and respect him very much. I thought his display with the USA at the WC last year was fantastic, that team showed great resilience and mental strength - which no doubt would have partly been a product of Klinsmann’s regimes and plans.
I literally no nothing about his time at Bayern in both capacities, and I’m sure some people will have their reasons for why they feel differently about him. But from my knowledge and viewpoint I think he’s a very good strategist.
Thank you for the messages :)
