Hawa Mahal (‘The Palace of Breeze’) built in 1799 is a palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has 953 windows that cover the lace-like walls to allow royal ladies watch the daily drama in the street below, without being noticed. A breathtaking massive structure right on the main road, the Hawa Mahal is an artistic marvel with beautiful patterns of intricate carvings, windows and colours. After capturing the routine travel shots (scroll next), I thought of connecting the artistic lace work of an umbrella nearby with the lace like walls of the Hawa mahal. The multicolour umbrella was contrasting with the single colour Hawa Mahal! As the umbrella was in the shadow area and the mahal in bright light, I did a manual HDR exposure and combined the images in post production for better details. Thanks to the HDR technology. Bottom line: HDR technique is mandatory for most of the travel shots. The in camera HDR settings available in most of the modern cameras are highly useful in such situations.
