“Mmm, yeah, I made them.”
Atsushi’s gaze doesn’t follow the young lady’s movements though his ears stay trained on the sound of shoes shuffling, paper boxes folding, and a nervous voice fumbling over words. Instead, his eyes are following his hands as they drop a crumble-coated baking sheet noisily into a large stainless steel sink. He imagines the sudden loud sound probably made it seem as though he was angry at her comment about his appearance not fitting his role in the kitchen. Whoops.
Mura turns to face her now, half-lidded eyes scanning her over. The horrified look on her face - As well as the few crumbs that cling to the corners of her lips for dear life- amuses him. He’ll play coy, he decides. How cruel. The faintest of smiles crosses his lips.
“Maa. . I look like a basketball player? How so? I’ve never heard that before.” He continues on with his cruel jest by lifting his long arms over his head, fingers easily reaching the overhead light beams. “Chefs have to be tall so they can scrape off pizza doughs and pancakes that get stuck to the ceiling. It’s in the handbook.” What handbook??
The weathered face of his elderly employer crosses his mind. She’s frowning and shaking her head. She would disapprove of teasing a business partner. Huh. Dang. Murasakibara drops his hands to his sides and releases a big sigh. He begins to untie his flour-coated apron.
“Hmmm.. Sorry; Just messing with you. There is no handbook. And I do play basketball.” He hangs the apron on the open hook next to his lightweight Yosen High windbreaker. The colors compliment one another. “It’s off season for basketball, by the way. We don’t play tons in the summer.”
