Just to catch up on the last 3 weeks...
I'm still around. I knew there was going to be some transitiony stuff to help the young lady who took my job on campus so I can stay home and work PT from here. But damn... My replacement is awesome. Quick, intelligent, and more than ready to deal with the horse shit she'll have to deal with in a mostly boys club. We went to lunch yesterday, my last transition day technically (until someone "forgets" something). Someone on the team who she won't identify (I'm 99% sure I know who it is) told her she was lucky to get the job and she only got it to replace a female with a female and to keep HR happy. I think she'll handle it. 😎
At the end of September, Hurricane Helene hit our area. If it or Milton hit your area, I hope you're okay and weren't affected by the storms. Where I live we were extraordinarily lucky. We didn't lose power. Everyone around us in our county had no power for days - my friends who live 2 miles up the road had no power for 9 days. They have a great generator and you need it living out in the country.
Our animal shelter is right on the river and it flooded. The staff and volunteers got the animals evacuated quickly, they were prepared. And all but 10 animals were adopted by their emergency fosters. How cool is that? The other 10 were taken in by another shelter in the northern part of our state. I've been going and helping a couple of hours each week to help clean and sanitize the facility. The dog runs are now operational and the work continues on the rest.
Two weeks ago, while helping there I twisted the hell out of my knee. Never had an injury like it. Went for my follow up appointment at the doctor's office. The good news is that I won't need surgery. It's a meniscus tear. The bad news is apparently I've got a few more weeks to go to heal it and that includes a knee brace and a cane (if you can believe that) on days when it hurts worse. At least the swelling is down. lol
Today, is my first day of my new routine. The girls finished their virtual homeschool - a neat new program I got them in this year. And now, I actually get to write. I'm so excited. I don't know where to start right now, but that's not a bad place to be.
What have YOU all been up to? 💕💕💕
